RETURNING CONVICT LOOKING TO BUY A RS6

Post by Monaro-Azz » Tue Mar 22, 2011 12:21 am

HI All,

I'm a Aussie that's just moved to London from Sydney Australia with my wife, to live and work for a year and a half or thereabouts.

I've been a bit of a lurker on this forum as I've been doing my research on my C5 RS6's, but I tend to warm up and enjoy some witty banter more as I get to know other forum members.

Yes Yes I know, bring on the sports sledging. we just can't seem to do anything right recently.

I never thought much of audi's until I bought my S4 and my god did that change me into a devout convert, The build quality, suppleness, and massive onslaught of early torque had me wanting more. Hence the need for a RS6.

I own a 2001 Audi S4 MTM Stg 2+ in Avus silver with MTM Exhaust, MTM chip,MTM Big brakes, MTM 19" wheels, RS4 DP's etc etc. running approx 340hp(240Hp @ wheels).

I am currently in the process of selling it to fund the purchase of my C5 RS6.

I plan on buying the C5 RS6 to own whilst here and then ship it home with me when I go.
There were only 25 RS6's sold in OZ so they are still fetching around $70-$80,000(£50,000) secondhand, they were $264,000(£165,000) new in 03.

I have a bad habit of modifying every car I own so I therefore plan to modify the RS6 with a 6 speed manual conversion using a Diesel 01E box & a single turbo conversion using a modified GT35/40 to begin with.

I'm no newbie when it come to modifying cars, here's just a few of them:

A Ford XR6 Turbo 4L Ute running 1076Hp (850ish @ wheels)

A Holden HQ GTS Monaro Coupe 5.7L V8 running 400-450hp on straight LPG

A HSV Senator 5L V8 running 350Hp, no actual pics due to computer crash but similar to below with better wheels.

A Ford Falcon ute Turbo 4L running 380hp on straight LPG, no pics due to computer crash

A Ford F150 Ute, am planning on fitting a RS6 engine to it(Engine bought already) :FIREdevil:
Image

A Holden Torana 3.3L NA running approx 420Hp I didn't take any pics before the car got run into.

similar to this car but baby blue.

I hope to get to know some of you better over the coming months,

Cheers, Aaron :kissmyrings:

Yeah, Audi all the way for my Daily now,
It's funny my brother in law had a M5 & my sister has a Neiman Marcus M6, I've driven the M5 & been in the M6 but neither of them captured my heart like my audi(& the others I've driven) also the Bmw's just seemed a little souless inside for my likings(don't get me wrong I'd never turn one down if offered one)

Thanks, The ute was a real Dr Jekkll & Mr Hyde affair as you could just putter around like a stock car or dispatch 1 litre sports bikes at will.
the torrie was pretty nice but the whole front got wiped out so had to sell it for parts.

Maybe once I've put a turbo on it, but after having shown a handful of them the door in my S4 they don't appeal to me as much as they used to.
I was contemplating a Horsepower factory Turbo E46 but it was to expensive for what it was plus M3's are nearly a dime a dozen back in OZ & I'd rather be driving rings around them(pun intended) in a modified RS6 that you could go weeks/months in before seeing another one on the road.
Plus I haven't finished my bachelors in hair design yet So I just wouldn't feel justified driving one till I get it! :bigblink:

Yehh! Finally sold my S4 back home so now have the funds to procure my next toy!

I'm now of two minds as to what to get either a C5 RS6 or a B5 RS4.

so I need some help...

the reason I'm of two minds is I have a lot of performance parts that I collected for my S4 still in my shed,
I've got a set of RS6 Turbo's, a set of RS6 Downpipes, Custom Stainless exhaust Manifolds, 65Lb Injectors, twin 044 fuel pumps, 2in 1out FMIC, 2x 710N DV's, Tanoga short shifter, etc etc...

So If I go that route I only really need a RS4 with a exhaust, brakes & coilovers then get a suitable map once everything is fitted.

The problem is all the RS4's in my price range seem to be high mileage or have shady history, where as I can get a genuine lowish Milage RS6 for the same money.

Arggh the hard decisions.

The B5 RS4 was the car as I was growing up that everyone wanted as it was super quick, very rare & considered a supercar. I have a lot of performance parts at hand to use on it & know they have some decent HP potential(using turbo's above RS6's of course) :nogarors4:

Whereas the C5 RS6 is more of a dark horse as not many people know how good they are, it has a wicked TT V8(I am a V8 man after all), but is very limited in upgrades by the box so can't do much till it's changed for something stronger. Also more room for rear passengers, more plush but also more cumbersome than a B5. :redrs4:

back home they are both on Par price wise with both being around the $70,000 mark give or take $10,000 but B5 RS4's are a tad rarer and in my mind likely to retain their value for longer as they have been depreciating for longer.

for my money (low teens) I can get a 01-02 RS4 with minor mods around 80-100,000 miles or
a 03-04 RS6 with 50-80,000 miles with minor mods.

also as we are only living here for 12-18months and are planning on doing lots of trips to europe etc, we want to be spending our spare cash on that rather than massive bills for the car(once home it won't matter as I have a fully equipped workshop with hoist & half of my friends work in the high performance car scene so I can get parts at cost & labour real cheap if I don't do it myself)

what is your opinion on what I should get? & why?

Cheers,

Depends what you want. I have both, but the 6 is my usual ride and Mrs T drives the 4. I like the 6 because of the long motorway runs and auto box, it's a lazy uber sloth barge.
Everytime I drive the 4, it's more involving, brings back memories and makes me want to get the bucket seats back in and track it.

So:
Cruiser = RS6
Driver = RS4

Nothing eats road like the '6. I've done a couple of long Euro runs and it's in a class of it's own for long legs and lots of lugage. Still, I really want a B5 for the power to weight, manual box and nimble handling, it'll leave the heavy '6 in the twisties. Tough choice but both are winners. Living in Europe it's the '6 for me, going home, get the B5 RS.
No matter where you go, there you are.
