I'm toying with upgrading my current rns-e to the later uprated screen version and swapping the face plates over to fit my B7 S4. Is the head unit all I need and will my autochanger still work with it and will anything be needed to be done in Vag Com after swapping over?

Yes (all you will need is the head unit) and yes (it will work with your existing CD changer). The pinouts are identical, and it can use the same map DVD.

You will need access to VCDS as the unit you buy almost certainly won't be coded for an A4, and probably won't be coded for your options - plus when you do an RNS-E swap some fault codes can get logged in e.g. the phone module which often need to be cleared as some can be blocking.

Thank you. That's what I needed to now. I don't have any access personally to VCDS so would have to find a local place to get that done. Will also be getting them to set it for the S4 start screen while I'm at it.

You can't have the S4 start screen on the 2010+ RNS-E, only the pre-2010 RNS-E can have the S4 (and RS4) start screen.

As the 2010+ RNS-E was never factory fitted to an A4/S4/RS4 Audi removed the S4 and RS4 startup screens.

Ok. No problem. Can the dis be set to show S4 on start up or that just the RS4 that does that?

It's just the RS4 DIS that does that.
