Kufatec / Alpine draining battery on iPod?

Post by DazN » Wed Jan 18, 2012 8:34 am

Hi,

I have a Kufatec IMA Plus and an Alpine KCE-425i fitted to me RNS-E in an Audi RS4.

When the iPod is connected it shows the battery symbol on as though it's charging and the battery doesn't seem to drop at all when it's in use. The problem is mainly over night, in the morning the battery on the iPod is always completely dead and it takes a good 5 minutes before it's sprung to life and can be used.

If I forget to disconnect the iPod it's a pain as I can only listen to the radio until it's woken up properly.

If I connect my iPhone to the same cable that doesn't show the charging symbol at all, but I don't think the iPhone is compatible. I did think all iPod/iPhones etc would be exactly the same, they have the same connector and it's only using power?

Any ideas?

Thanks

Kufatec / Alpine draining battery on iPod?

I have the same setup and mine does the same but also mine has a mind of its own. Sometimes I'll turn the car off and the iPod will keep playing instead of stopping, sometimes it will charge sometimes it won't. It may also like a track so much that it won't want to skip it for a good minute after I tell it too.

Does yours carry on playing to itself with ignition off?

Not sure, I'll check shortly and let you know.

A lot of the time it says "disconnect and reconnect the iPod" which is frustrating!

There's no other alternative though AFAIK.

My iPod doesn't seem to stay on, the battery dies when it's left plugged in though. I disconnected the iPod from the car and left it in the house, 3 days later the battery was fine, in the car it dies over night.

I have also noticed that every-now-and-then it loses it's setting from the RNS-E and I have to navigate through the menu and select '18' for iPod.

Might just ditch the whole thing and get the Kenwood double DIN unit fitted.
