Disconnect the RNS-E 6 CD changer, what will happen?

Hi, I never use the CD changer and a mate would like to put it in his own car. If I simply unplug it, will the RNS-E throw a wobbler and refuse to function? I'd rather not perform this surgery and end up with a non-operable radio/SD card player for the holidays :)

Sorry if it's a silly question, but I haven't a clue!

It's an RNS-E unit in a B7 RS4, with a TV tuner that I also never use and would be happy enough to get rid of too.

All advice much appreciated!

Nope, everything else will carry on working as normal.

The RNS-E will store a fault code but that won't stop anything else working.

The iPod adapter plugs in where the CD changer goes - so your RNS-E still thinks there's a CD changer plugged in, which makes your experience not relevant to the question that stuwd is asking.

I don't even own a single CD, so It's going in someone else's B7 2.0 TFSI. It hasn't got RNS-E but my mate's confident it'll work ok. In exchange for some detailing :)

I'm planning on getting an aux in installed - it's only taken me a year! The drag is wondering how to get power into the glove box for a stereo A2DP receiver. I want to play my music over the iPhone but I really like the OEM cradle mounted on the central console. I might be sacrificing a little fidelity over A2DP but road noise cancels that out fairly well. I think I might have to piggy back onto the 12V cigarette lighter socket near the handbrake and snake a wire up and into the glove box. If the end socket is a cigar lighter it'll be fairly versitile for whatever A2DP device I find. Fingers crossed. I probably don't need to get rid of the CD changer but it's useless to me. As is the TV tuner - I haven't a clue who uses those things... :bash:

Hardly ever used mine, certainly won't have ticked that box when speccing the car, they are not cheap too.

If you have an RNS-E then the Aux In is completely separate to the CD changer/iPod connection.

If you code the RNS-E to 0xxxx5x that will enable a separate audio Aux In (see http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.ph ... 28RNS-E%29 ), and then you can buy a cable from Kufatec http://www.kufatec.de/shop/product_info ... RNS-E.html which will give you an Aux In connection. Connect an A2DP adapter to that and you're done.

Good stuff - that was the cable I was looking at last night and was fairly sure it was the one. :beerchug:

They're very handy things - even handier if they're out of sight. I don't like memory cards and expensive proprietary systems like iTunes/iPods and so on that lock you in. A 3.5mm aux in is universal - you can plug in the next new sound technology as soon as it comes along.

I'm getting my bumper droop fixed in the morning at Revolution so I'll ask them to code the RNS-E ready for the aux.

It was introduced onto the R8, TT and A3 in about November 2009 - but with zero publicity.

You've been had - it became part of the standard spec of all Audis fitted with either RNS-E or Symphony II+ in late 2009.
