I've been using the 3GS adapter for a year now without any problems. It clicked onto the base plate of the vertical mount after a bit of fiddling and has been solid as a rock ever since.
My new iPhone 4 cradle adapter has arrived and I can't for the life of me get the adapter to fit the base right. I noticed something which I think is a design flaw: the top two spring loaded catches on the base have nothing to clip onto - they just sit empty square holes in the back of the adapter. Yes, the springs exert some pressure on the sides of the holes, but the holes are flush, with no indents for the catches to click into so there isn't anything other than a bit of friction holding them. The bottom catches have a hole+indent to clip into as on the 3GS adapter. The net result is a cradle which can come away from the base with the lightest of tugs.
Have I got a dud or are they all made this way?
Part number 8T0.051.435.F
Thanks in advance!
Can someone look at their iPhone 4 cradle adapter for me?

I've cross posted to the more active B7 RS4 forum as I might want a quicker resolution and refund:
