Indicators dont flash when locked

Post by david7m » Wed Jul 21, 2010 11:58 am

Hi

Have I lost the plot or something, as I'm sure the indicators used to flash once when locking, twice to unlock....anyway, now they dont when locking.

Is this normal for a 2001 S3? I haven't changed anything.

My S3 flashes when locking/unlocking

The only time I have seen this on my S3 is when one of the doors was not fully shut.
Does the DIS show any doors open?
If not it may be the bonnet switch at fault

my b5 rs4 does that now and again, when it doesnt flash see if the interior light is still on(it will go out after a while)dont know if you have an led on the front doors, this doesnt flash either.
The dis shows door open sometimes aswell when i shut door and start engine.

It seems to be ok again now. But it sometimes shows that the drivers door is open when it isn't :( Assume it is related to this.

That will be the cause, if it thinks that a door is open it won't flash the indicators as a means of telling you that a door isn't closed.

The switch is part of the door lock so officially you have to buy a new lock mechanism, but it is often possible to adjust the switch having removed the lock mechanism.

Yes it will be the lock - it's usually worse in hot sunny weather

Hot sunny weather causes the interior movement (usually ultrasonic) sensors to trigger as the air currents setup by one side of the car being hot (in the sun) and one side being cold make the sensors believe there's someone/something moving inside the car.

Try turning the interior movement sensors off - switch in the drivers door pocket.

For some reason that doesn't work, it never has since I brought it and I never got around to having it replaced under warranty :(
