Coyote - Real time speed camera alert system

As per the title, does anyone have one of these? I was away on business the other day in Belgium and one of the guys there had one and it looks good and very simple.
I have had road angels and the likes but they always ended up in the glove box.
This system is slightly different and relies on other users. You see a camera, mobile or other and you press a button . You get real time updates through built in GSM network.
Havent seen it advertised in the UK but apparently it has had success in Europe. I loved the simplicity of it and its tiny size.
Might have a look into getting one but wondered if anyone on here has one as the whole system works on a community so if there aint any about then it is kind of useless!
Have a look here:

I lived in belgium and everyone there and France have them. Fantastic piece of kit, the user updates the system when they come across a speed trap. You can also see how many other users are on the stretch of road ahead so you can be fairly confident its clear! The sooner they catch on over here the better!

I've looked at this before but was put off by the high subscription costs. It simply doesn't work without subscription unlike other GPS units where you subscribe and update to the lastest camera positions etc.

That's what put me off when I looked at their website after seeing this thread.

Unusual thread resurrection - you mean this product in particular shoppinit? The idea was a good one I have to say, and the product looked decent and tidy. Similar apps are available now on Smartphones I think - makes buying a dedicated unit pointless now.

Yeah, it caught my eye for some reason when I came to post my own topic!
I used wikango on my iPhone before the GPS chip packed up.

Is it a similar idead, cloud based camera database (ie not stored on the units memory) and other road users can add to the database?

Yes, and it's free. Which is nice. There are some others, too. Trapster is another one, I think.

Shoppinit, do you have a link regarding the Coyote being banned??

The vast majority of Coyote's user base is in France. The government had recently passed a law making GPS radar positioning devices illegal in the same way that radar detectors are. The Coyote as such isn't being banned, but it has had to be transformed into a road safety device which warns of danger spots on the road. This is severely limited its utility as a speed camera warning device.

I severly doubt that coyote will weather this legislation.

What's the position of visitors to France who have GPS camera warning devices such as Pogo Alert etc?
Will they now be liable to confiscation in the same way as radar detectors?

Yes, exactly the same deal. But there is a lot of confusion at the moment about exactly what rights the cops have to check your equipment. If your detector is iPhone based, for example, they can't go in to check what app you have. Caution, though, French police are not above a little abuse of authority in the same way that the sea is not above the sky.
Right now I know that the cops are waiting for guidelines before doing anything, but sooner or later those guidelines will come out and people will know better where they stand. At least those who are privy to the police guidelines.
