New Kenwood DNX and Sharkfin gps reciever

Post by GarethRS » Fri Mar 05, 2010 11:43 pm

Hi all,

I have just brought a Kenwood DNX-5240BT HU with built in Garmin GPS. The Kenwood uses a odd ball GT5 1S-HU connector for the GPS antenna.

I wanted to use the existing Sharkfin antenna on my roof and it looks like i'm going to have to make up a adapter lead to go from a GT5 1S-HU plug to a SMB socket. I have no problem making one by either splicing or crimping, but my question is, is the Sharkfin antenna any good.

Theory would say that an antenna on the external of the car could be better than one inside.

Thoughts?

Thx

Without a doubt making an adapter up to use the sharkfin will be better than using any internal antenna.

I have found somewhere that makes them, so I'll see what happens.

Thx
