RNS-E sat nav...

Hi Guys. A pal of mine has bought an RNS-E unit to replace his symphony 2 in his B7 A4 cab.

All went well until the unit asked for the security code (4 digit) which was supplied both with a card and also marked on the unit with a marker.

Entered the code - wrong one.

Re-entered (thinking fat fingers may be to blame) and again, wrong code. Now locked out for 60 minutes.

Tried emailing the seller (in Germany) and getting broken English responses which don't make sense.

Question: Can I obtain a code from the Audi dealer or will they turn their noses up due to the unit being an ebay buy?

Any help appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Grahame

Yes you can get the code from the dealer, but all depends how friendly/awkward your dealer is

Crikey that was quick. He's having a nightmare here. Even tried using google translate to reply in German but the replies (when translated) are like

"The moon turns blue when the cow dances with clogs."

A pal had VAG COM - will this help or is it dealer only?

LOL!

No this is dealer only.

They need to enter the info (chassis no, and radio serial no), and then obtain the code. I don't know now, but this maybe done online, or otherwise by fax.

Don't worry about the chassis no, as this is only used for meeting the fields required to get the code. The code is actually generated from the radio serial number.

Oh and VCDS won't be of no use.

Thanks for the info and help.

He sent a final email asking for the codes so will await the response. I will call Audi for him in the morning and ask the question.

....still trying to understand how a cow wears clogs......

Update:

Called Preston Audi this morning. Spoke with Adam in service dept who has kindly offered to get the code free of charge.

Nice chap.

Hopefully will have pal up and running tomorrow.
