No sounds from radio

Driving into work this morning the sound suddenly went off on the radio (RND-D with BOSE). After a minute or so I decided maybe it was the station so retuned - still no sound. Turned off and on - still no sound. Turned ignition on and off - still no sound.
Ive not checked fuses yet. I will check but just though I'd quickly post the question in case there is something else I can check in the event that fuses are intact. Seems a bit odd as the radio and everything else (apparently) seems to be working!

Is there a crossed out speaker symbol on the bottom of the RNS-D display (I'm assuming that still lights up, but you don't say that)?
Is there any message on the top section of the DIS - like "PHONE"?
I'm wondering if the Tel Mute signal has somehow got grounded...

Hi Dave. Yes the display is still fine. DIS has usual info on it, nothing else.
I will check for crossed-out speaker symbol.
Just seems odd that it suddenly happened.
Is there a separate fuse for BOSE? Its almost like the amplifier has stopped working.

Is there a thermal cut-out on it? Sometimes I can hear a little fan running in mine!

OK - back to square one. Its not the amplifier, if I turn it up high there is hiss coming from the speakers. I tried to manually seek a station and it didnt sync to anything so I am no assuming that the aerial is at fault or the aerial lead somewhere.
Im sure Ive read about this somewhere that its a known fault on the RS6???
Im assuming a new roof mount aerial will solve the problem!

Could be an intermittent connection, and like you I've sure I've read that the sharkfins can be a bit unreliable.

Further update. The radio works perfectly until after driving for about 10 minutes and then it goes very feint. I can just hear it if I turn the volume up high but its very distorted. This ties in with the aerial / aerial connections. But I cant understand why its fine for the first 10 minutes. Now I'm wondering whether it's a heat problem. Maybe the unit is overheating or something. Is the aerial connection standard at the back of the RNS-D. If so I will get a cheapy one from Halfords and see if it works to eliminate the unit or aerial.

Not 100% sure, but I think it may be a Fakra plus a "normal" one for diversity.

You say the radio stops working but not the cd?
Do you get sound if you play a cd?

I havent checked that. I orginally thought that there was no sound at all. But if I turn the volume up then I can hear the radio but its very off-tune, which makes me think its an aerial problem. What is odd is that it take about 10 minutes for the problem to occur. up to then, the reception is fine. But once it goes, it doesnt come back at all. So its not intermittent. I guy at work suggested it maybe a heat problem within the RNS unit itself. Which sounds plausible as I know for a fact that if I go out after the car has been standing for a while it will work straight away.
I could really do with another unit to test.

Try the cd, if it works then that rules out the aerial

You mean if it works it makes the aerial the culprit?
