RNS-D and Bluetooth

Post by jd_hants » Mon Aug 10, 2009 10:38 am

I have an RNS-D in my RS6.

Have an iPhone in the new Brodit cradle. (lets you clamp a Griffin Powerjolt charging lead to it so you just need to slip the iPhone in to charge rather than fiddle around connecting/disconnecting the lead every time)

Anyway, I read somewhere that the iPhone works fine with the Bluetooth with the RNS-E. I was wondering whether I can add BT to RNS-D or whether to take the plunge and just replace with an RNS-E unit and BT? For the RNS-E, can I use the existing GPS, TMC and TV modules or would I need to replace everything?

GPS - OK.

TMC - rip out (bridging the CAN bus and the antenna connections) and throw away, because the RNS-E has TMC built-in.

TV - not 100% sure, but I think the TV tuner will work with the RNS-E.

IMHO if you're thinking about adding BT you might as well replace the RNS-D as well.

OK Dave thanks for that. One further question, do I need a particular RNS-E as I have Bose or any RNS-E, subsequently coded with VAGCOM will do?

I did read somewhere that there is an Audi Digital TV Tuner. Wondered whether it needs a different antennae to work properly.

You need an RNS-E with an A6 faceplate so it will physically fit, Bose is just a coding option.

craigyb has swapped the analogue TV tuner to a hybrid (analogue/digital) one - IIRC the antenna connectors needed changing to make them fit but that was it because it uses the same antenna system.
