Problems after updated RNS-D maps

Just updated my RNS-D to latest DX maps and s/w (genuine Bosch/Blaupunkt DX 2009/2010 with iTMC for GB) and now the road names only appear in the DIS window and not on the maps!! Also TMS 'still' doesn't appear to work which was main reason to upgrade! Any ideas??? Previously it was a 2004 DX disc. I've only had the car a month so I wouldnt know if the TMC ever worked/is supposed to work/will never work!!! Just as a side, its the least of my worries as my entire DRC on my RS6 has been diagnosed as knackered and no warranty or help from Audi to fix it!!! But at least with a working Navi I will be able to get to MRC or Unit20!!!!

I used to use a TeleAtlas 2004 DX disc in the RNS-D I had in a 2003 B6 S4, TMC worked fine on that setup. Sounds like you may have a faulty unit.

Ok silly question: I'm assuming that TMC facility is fitted to the car as standard and not an option. Is there any way to check that the TMC receiver is actually fitted???

You could take the opportunity to go for an RNS-E upgrade (if it is faulty that is)? DK did it recently on is RS6 so might be able to give you a few pointers.

If the nav instructions appear in the DIS when you have a route set then the TMC tuner is fitted.
Weird logic, but ... the TMC tuner is actually 2 things combined - a TMC tuner and a CAN bus converter. The RNS-D talks Bosch CAN which needs to be converted to Audi CAN to talk to the car and Audi chose to combine that in one box with the TMC tuner - so the TMC tuner was not an option.
So if the CAN communications work (i.e. the nav instructions appear on the DIS ) then you definitely have a TMC tuner fitted.
The antenna connections to the RNS-D go through the TMC tuner so if the radio on the RNS-D works then the wiring is OK.
Only other possibility I can think of? TMC tuner fitted, CAN converter working but tuner part faulty?

OK many thanks for that. The directions definately appear in the DIS and the radio is fine. Just seems weird that the street names no longer appear on the map but do in the DIS. It worked before the upgrade. Maybe I leapt to far from 2004 to 2009/2010??? Will it downgrade if I put the 2004 disc back in or will it screw things up? Also, is there a full factory reset or something to try? Cheers. John.

The DX map discs don't change the firmware, they're just map discs, so there's no upgrade/downgrade involved.
The street names don't appear on the map probably because they've had to remove that feature to fit on the extra new roads that have appeared since 2004!
I reckon it's working as they intend it to?

When I put the disc in it said upgrading. Unless it was just loading the maps. So maps without streetnames on is completely useless isnt it???

Doesn't sound great to me, but given a choice between leaving of roads and missing out street names I reckon leaving out street names is better. If you turn on route guidance you'll see the street names in the DIS so it's not a total disaster.
