cruise control

Some help required here.
'98 S4 saloon
It wasn't working when I bought it. I'd like to take a look, so some diagnostic pointers would be useful. Is there anything that is a common problem? Where are all the bits hiding?
When it is functioning, what indications are present?

Sorry no visual or audible indications for cruise.

sort of a bump...
Checked both pedal switches, and these are fine.
Is there anyone on here with some technical pointers?
Is this something that Vagcom can help diagnose (excuse dumb question, I normally play with older kit)

Yeah you can look at the function of the cruise control switch on vagcom, Measuring blocks. This might help

You can check the functioning from measuring block 66

Maybe post where you are located and someone might be able to assist with Vagcom.
Audisrs.com is another forum like RS246.COM - most of the people on here are also on there! They made a map showing where people who had vagcom where:
