Bluetooth Phone Kit in an RS6 (ABS compatibility issue??)

Just had the following message from the install company. Has anyone else had this issue or if not what has been fitted.

Thanks,

Hope you are well. Following on from our earlier telephone conversation with regards to the fitting of your hands free car kit, I have discovered that the spec of your vehicle is unable to be fitted with Bluetooth only car kits due to the following vehicle alert.

DO NOT INSTALL BLUETOOTH ONLY KITS INTO THE RS6 MODEL AS WE HAVE EXPERIENCED ELECTRONIC INTERFERENCE WITH THE ABS BRAKING SYSTEM, THEREFORE IN THE INTEREST OF SAFETY WE ADVISE AGAINST BLUETOOTH ONLY CAR KITS.

We are however able to fit with a hardwired kit, can you please confirm that this is ok.

I apologise for the inconvenience, please contact me if you require any further assistance. I look forward to your response.

Kind regards

Hi Joules,

I have an RS6 Avant, with a Nokia CK-7W Bluetooth kit in that was professionally installed by Cellcom, a Nokia accredited installer when I bought it in September 07. Nothing was mentioned by them and no problems (to my knowledge!!) on this.

Many people have Audi or other Bluetooth car kits in bothC5 RS6 and C6 RS6 models - this looks like an unfounded scare story to me.

Guys,

This is the response from AUDI???

Dear Mr Foster

I have spoken to our technical team who believe that a Bluetooth kit could interfere with the ABS system on your vehicle. This is because Audi themselves do not have a kit available for your vehicle model year. The only way we could 100% confirm this is for you to visit your local Audi Centre who would then intern submit a DISS report (technical enquiry ) to our head office who would be able to confirm whether Bluetooth does indeed interfere with the ABS system..

Kind Regards

You believe what Audi say LOL

Then WHY did/do Audi fit a Bluetooth system in the 8P A3, B6/B7 A4, C5/C6 A5, 8J TT, R8, etc....

BTW what model/year do you have?

No I don't believe them !!! this is a simple brush off because they cannot be arsed checking properly. Too easy to say there maybe an issue. I was tempted to write back saying that a 747 may fly through my office window.

Been thinking about Audi's reply - IF it was true (which it isn't) then either or both the car and/or the Bluetooth kit would be in breach of the EU EMC Directive (which requires electronic devices to not generate or be affected by interference). That came into force in the late 1980's.

When I was in charge of development of electronics at Lotus this was an area I was responsible for - and believe me if a Bluetooth kit affects the ABS on a car then the ABS will be failing every few miles or so as you drive past or near all sorts of much higher power radio transmitters.

Latest is that the independent will install if I sign a disclaimer which I will. They now state that a previous problem they had which was not validated is an owner claimed interference with the ABS Light on the instrument cluster. Blar Blar Blar!!

I have installed genuine audi BT preps into many RS6's and never had an issue with the ABS lights, not a single customer has come back to me in 3 years with an issue.

I have decided to junk the whole system (Audi NaviPlus 2004 ) and get either a Kenwood DNX 5240BT or 8220BT

What was the over-riding factor in your decision to go for the 5240 Joules, I have been looking at your post in the general section and having checked this out I keep coming back to the 8220?

To be honest, I thought the knob and buttons on the 5240BT looked more like a standard system. Whereas all flush is clearly not.

The only other real benefits to the 8220 are the tilting screen but I don't think it makes much difference. I am very happy with the 5240BT but both are good. Just make sure you pick a BT version i.e. 5240BT or 8220BT. The BT being Bluetooth for the built in Parrot phone prep.
