Sat nav to work, do i have to buy the standard headunit? Its a 98 s4, its got a cd changer & the sat nav cd box, in the back, but not sure what ive got to do to get it working, im new to audi's and ive only just bought this a few days ago.

Have you got some sat nav controls down by the handbrake? If you have then the turn instructions will appear on the DIS between the speedo and tacho, but you won't get a map. All you would need is a TeleAtlas map CD.

arrrr ok, then that means i will need to get the lcd display fixed 1st as its all blury, dead pixels i believe, and yeah i do have some controls near the handbrake.
teleatlas map, would this still work if i dont haev the standard headunit in then... would this show me a map, or not...

You need to get your DIS replaced first before you'l be able to see what you are or are not doing.

Unfortunately, there is no cheap fix for the DIS issue I don't think. You'll have to buy a new instrument cluster or a good 2nd hand one. Search the B5S4 forum for repair advice.

The BNS sat nav you have is not connected to the headunit at all - you can have any headunit you like (or even no headunit).

The DIS is too small and too low a resolution to show a map - all you get are turn instructions (e.g. little arrows that show turn left, turn right, take the 3rd exit at the roundabout, etc.)

The sat nav still needs a map disc to be able to calculate the route - even though it doesn't show you a map. You get the TeleAtlas map CDs from the TeleAtlas website http://navigation.teleatlas.com/en/
