Bugger. I want to get one fitted ASAP. Moving into a slightly less more desirable area with no garage

Why couldn't you have continued on line
I thought that's what this forum was all about.

Looking at getting the AVANTGUARD 4.
Any good Phil? Not worried about Thatcham blah blah blah...Just want to keep the feckers away from my car.
I know you are the man for Clifford knowledge

Cheers

I got the concept 300.

I'm generally happy with Clifford, but not that impressed with their proximity detectors (they seem to favour them over ultrasonics)

I've found that the proximity sensor either falses, or you have to turn the sensitivity down so much that it doesn't cover the whole car.

Other than that I really pleased.
The tilt sensor is worth getting, as is the shock sensor.

I think I'm right in saying that the very top spec alarm (AvantGuard 4 isn't cat 1 approved)

This is because of the remote start/turbo timer I beleive, which to be honest I'd steer clear of anyway.

I fitted mine myself (didn't want anyone else to do it) had real trouble finding a suitable place for the siren under the bonnet, so fitted it in the car (hidden from sight obviously) I think it serves more as more of a deterent there (as it would be near impossible to drive with it going off!). I used the normal car horns as the external siren, as well as some air horns at the rear in the place of the old Audi alarm (which incidentally can be easily wired to arm and disarm with the clifford giving double protection)

I'd really recommend some form of paging/phoning device too, which will alert you if out of earshot of the car (I built such a system myself and it really does give piece of mind)

Hope this helps
-Dan

On my Audi I have a CAT 1 cobra - does exactly what it says on the tin - had no problems at all.

On the skyline we had a clifford fitted, when the weather gets really cold the siren starts going and won't shut off, and becasue it has battery back up even disconecting the main battery will not shut it up.

It does seem to favour the early hours to do this - often when I have had a few beers - about a fortnight we had the whole system changed bar the wiring in an attempt to resolve this, touch wood it seems better.

However I couldn't recomend to anyone having a clifford fitted because of this, it is simply not acceptable that the cold should affect the operation of an alarm in this way.

Thanks for the disclaimer Simon

I have had many Clifford alarms and echo the feeling that it is down to the installer. My mate who has fitted all my Cliffords was National Clifford Install Champion for several years and it is his trade.

Here is the difficult balance I see:

Simple = less to go wrong = easy to bypass
Complex = more to go wrong = longer to disable

Personally I'd burn the b@st@rds to death if I could legally fit a Blaster .

what I'd really like is that same system that batman used on his car - how cool is that???

still in the real world it depends on what is important to you I suppose. There are some great alarms out there that do not have cat1 acreditation but loads of great features, like paging etc etc.

for me I had to have CAT1 on the Audi for the insurance, when we first insured the skyline they insisted on CAT1 - and I wanted a few more features - but the new insurance people aren't bothered about cat 1 on either car

I know its for peace of mind and all that but do you think the S4's are high theft risks anyway?? (I guess RS4's are)

My insurance dropped £500 when I switched from my scooby (Ok modified) to the S4.

Currently CAT1 and Tracker Monitor but the latter was not needed??

Oh and back to topic.... I've had 3 TOAD 606i's ...all were relaiable and one had the paging option but range was poor.
