speed camera detection devices

Is anybody using these things? I'm considering one but there are so many to choose from its hard to make an informed choice. Would prefer a recommendation from soemone using one.

nige_rs4 - i'm interested in the jammer as well however, does it really work?

I have both installed. Snooper GPS for those Gatso and SPECS and a jammer (front and rear !!). Luckily I have an electronic garage door, so if I ever get pulled by plod, I should be ok !

I have a PogoAlert and it's really good (even in France) - the Specs display is especially useful (shows limit, your average and your current speed).

I have an old style origin B2, comes with laser detection and ability to add the laser jammer.
never bought the jammer, and to be honest if you can;t slow down in the time it takes for the shrill laser alarm to burst your ear drum then you deserve to get caught!
the problem I find is the GPS based Gatso detector coes off so many times in some areas you become complacent.
the add and delete function is good but I am sceptical about how they update their database.
I have deleted the same camera so many times yet it is still in the update!

saved me numerous times, I have a spare loom for the other car so you just swap the headset which is smaller than a packet of fags.

there are so many sat nevs with GPS camera function built in now you don;t need a seperate device if that is all you want.

get one with laser detection though in my opinion

I've got the Origin B2 Solo as well, good bit of kit. As for the laser detector, well, if it pings you and you're speeding, there's nothing you can do about it, you've had it. That's why jammers do what they do.

not true, if it pings and you are speeding you have a short (read "a second or two" ) to do something about it.
I have been lasered from a gantry on the M6 and I just pulled in behind someone and took my foot off the gas. happened probably three or four times. no tickets.
hand held lasers at a distance from the front as opposed to mobile laser/camera traps need a substantial amount of time on target to read a true speed. and if you are decellerating it is even harder for it to get a true average......thats why they are so unreliable.

if you can't see the 8 foot dayglo van with his back window open....laser jammer won't save you there either

I thought they needed to fire 2 beams at you (one after the other) to receive an accurate speed i.e. why you have the "second or two" to slow down; first laser sets off detector...?

With regards to the camera van, beleive me, not always are they as visible as they are "legally required" to be...

I've passed one (thankfully, wasn't speeding) parked at roadside in a 30 zone, purposely in front of a 4x4 (with his rear door open; trust me, until you got right next to him, you didn't see him or even know who he was.
TBH, he must have been lasering through the 4x4's windows...?

That's almost up there with the North Wales Police camera in a horse box.

Earlier this year Hampshire Police had parked a camera van on the RHS of the road in the middle of a line of parked cars, white vans and 4x4s and were pointing the laser at an acute angle across the road. There's no way that was sited to be visible and encourage people to slow down, it was blatantly sited to be as difficult to spot as possible and hence maximise revenue.

If the Police followed the guidelines then spotting a camera van would be easy, but they don't.

A couple of years back, I was returning home from the cottage in North Norfolk, heading towards the M11, on an ordinary 2-lane A road. A camera van, hidden behind a fallen tree, suddenly made its presence heard on my garage door opener. Since I was in the middle of executing an overtake (traveling at 90), it was a little difficult to alter my speed instantly. Luckily, within the 6 seconds allowed, I was able to pull in front of the car I was passing, and 'adjust' my speed. Garage door openers clearly do what they are designed to do!

My (ex-)wife told me, when I bought the RS6, that I'd either kill myself, or lose my licence. I did neither (though I was tempted to kill her on a few occasions!) - in fact the last entry on my licence was in 1976.
