Do you have the antenna adapter too? Unless you currently have a Symphony II+ you'll need that as well (the RNS-E, like the Symphony II+, uses a double Fakra connector for the antennas but the older Symphony II uses a single Fakra and a "normal" car radio connector).

I think I have the symphonyII,combined radio,CD & cassette player,I assume it's the OE for my 53 reg S4 ? I have the removal keys,so if it would help,I can remove the headunit & look ?

No need to remove it - if it has a cassette player then it's a Symphony II.

So you do need the antenna adapter as well.

Who is "they"?
It's a lead that has a normal car radio antenna socket on one end and a double Fakra plug on the other end.

What always works for me is to insert the 4 keys fully, then angle them slightly outwards to make sure the locking tabs are fully disengaged - top two and then bottom two - and pull firmly.

If it still won't shift like that then remove the glovebox (it's only 5 or 6 screws), then you can put your hand behind the unit and push from behind while doing as above with the keys.
