RNS-E Upgrade discs

I've recently fitted an RNS-E unit in my car but the disc is a 2005 model (my own house isn't even listed).

I've been tempted with some of the 2008 discs available on eBay, but as some of these sellers seem to have more than one for sale, I can only assume that these are copies.

So I have to ask, does a copied version work? And if so, what is the advantage to buying the proper disc from Audi?

Copied map DVDs don't always work, even if they do work initially a copied DVD is more difficult to read so it will probably stop working at some time (maybe on a very hot or very cold day at first).

Copied map DVDs are cheaper, but illegal (it's legal to make a backup for personal use but not to sell it, and it's illegal to own only a copy).

Genuine map DVDs are not much more expensive on eBay than copies - go for one of them.

BTW make sure you get DVD1 (Western Europe), DVD2 covers only Eastern Europe (excluding the UK).

Thanks for the quick reply, it pretty much confirmed what I thought.

I'll probably give eBay a go for an original then.

Am I right in thinking that the 2008 version is only one disc?

No. The 2008 is two discs.

Oh, OK.

The one I was looking at only seemed to have the one, I'll need to check which one it is.

Lots of eBay sellers do that - buy a set of two discs and then sell them separately for not much less each than they paid for two. Result - nice profit!
