1999 S3 Alarm issue

Post by S3_graham » Thu May 15, 2008 11:53 am

right....

Last summer my car, when I used to go hard right, the hazards would come on and interior lights...then all winter.. no problems.. then yesterday.

Slowing down off a dual carriageway... hazards come on, interior lights come on, engine cuts out. Start the car again and hazards come on. turn them off. on again. Then manage to get it home. only 1 mile. then on drive way, turn car off... then try to start, wont start. unlock the car. lock. then unlock. starts fine. Then get out lock the car. hazards come on. unlock car. starts. then get out lock car. hazards go off... unlock get in. car starts. get out lock hazards dont come on. walk away.. hazards come on. next 10 mins are spent locking and unlocking car... fiinally leave it unlocked. hazards stay off. called aa... he is none the wiser, slams doors, boot etc disconnected battery to reset system. no different.

after he went I started playing with fuses for central locking etc... and it kept doing it. seems to be random which door... but only if you slam it.. so im think it may be one door being vibrated or something...

I wiggled the wires from dash to drivers door... and the car wouldnt start. then wiggled them again and the car would start...... so I thought just try it once more... wiggle them again and now nothing... car locks etc as normal... but wont start. by this time battery is dying... so thats how I left it last nite.

im pretty baffled but thinking it could be a door switch. but im confused as to why the audible part of the alarm isnt sounding??

not sure if its worth mentioning but the front for the interior disable switch has come loose but still seems to work. (lights up etc to say its working)

also the system is showing a fault (the led next to door pin stays on when you lock the car, should flash fast)

Any ideas?? very frustrating!! and if I take it to Audi im expecting a HUGEE bill.....

Have you run a fault scan using VAG-COM or similar to see what errors the alarm has logged?

got one in my hand but am working today.. will do that tonight and post codes tomorrow. im hoping that the start issue might be low voltage on the battery... but it does still crank.. just slowly...

The alarm horn has a backup battery and when that fails it usually stops sounding.

erm, i got in the car last nite and it beeped at me 3 times, i thought that was to say the battery is getting low? so it didnt do that the other day... so would that mean it was ok?

Plugged in my version of the vag thing, only to find, you need to have the car running to get all of the proper codes. all the ones i got were to do with power not being there etc.

this is a slight issue when the car wont start!

Charge the battery first, the car doesn't have to be running but the iggy needs to be on.

ok charged up the battery, at first made no difference, got the codes 4066 ( signal from airflow meter) and 4661 (which appears to be the crash switch) ... then randomly after my dad pumped the throttle ( drive by wire so should make no difference) the car jumps into life and all is well again. This was on friday.

Now... was driving about all of yesterday fine, done about 13miles, washed the car today as it was a nice day, went to drive it back to front of the house and bam....

Hazards go again and conks out.

From a bit of fault finding.. you start the car, then the second you move the hazards go.. and if you move further then the car cuts out. My dad then gave it some boot to get some momentum to get it to the front driveway and nothin.. its fine again. so would this explain the crash switch??

The car has been in an accident before i had it.. rear r/h 3/4 has been replaced.

Doesn't it unlock doors, cut fuel and ignition and flash hazards when the crash sensor detects an accident?

Is the airbag light on or to be accurate does it come on and go off on ignition start up?

airbag light comes on and goes off again

Code i got from a downloader is "Crash switch off triggered".
