Thanks al'srs4. It's just i'm a perfectionist which is why I chose an RS4 !!

It would be good if everyone gave their views on what they had fitted.

I don't have anything and generally don't feel they are worth the money.

Call me an old fart if you like but speeding in posted limit areas (where most of the cameras will be found of course) holds very little atraction to me nowadays. Instead I keep my 'fun' to out of town A & B roads where the car really comes into its own anyway. Still not without the risk of being nicked but the risks are dramatically reduced.

If I were to spend money on any sort of device it would be a laser jammer as you have to be hyper vigilant at all times to spot them with the long range that they have. I'm no expert but my understanding is that the laser detectors aren't of much use as, by the time you are alerted to their existence, you are already nicked.

Pogo but without laser detector fitted (which is why I got caught by a Talivan last week).

hanbury - it's not about deliberately speeding (only idiots do that) but it's about being caught going above the ACPO limit when your speed has crept up because you've been paying attention to other hazards. The concentration of speed limits as the ONLY road safety enforcement measure is creating a breed ofdrivers that watch their speedos and miss the car reversing onto the road, the parked lorry that hides the child about to run into the road, etc... We need detectors so that we CAN watch all the other hazards on the roads without being penalised for letting our speed creep up.

PetrolDave - I'm sure you didn't mean that 'only idiots deliberately speed', 'cos I would guess that would include a fair few of us!

I wasn't passing judgement on anyone who breaks speed limits (deliberately or not) I was just laying out why I haven't bothered with a detector. Anyway, I think I know what you meant and I expect our views are very similar.

FWIW - I don't believe that speed cameras generally contribute to road safety (but rather that they are primarily a revenue generator); I absolutely don't buy the message that 'speed kills' (rather that it is the inappropriate use of speed); and I also know that the typical 'idiots' to which I think you refer will only slow down for the camera and then immediately speed up to an unsafe degree whilst driving past my kids' school - what to do about these people is the challenge.

I know how easy it can be to let your speed creep up in areas where the speed limit seems (and may well be) unreasonably low and I think it is a bit unfair if/when someone gets a ticket for a little over the limit whilst still driving 'safely'.

However, I would have to just take issue with the idea that people are driven to watch their speedo to the detriment of concetrating on other hazards and that, as a result, their speed creeps up. If I find myself in a position where hazards are coming up so quickly that I am unable to pay sufficient attention to my speed(o) I slow down. Surely this is what we all do all of the time.

Cheers

Tony

I think the statistics for deaths and injuries in 20mph zones support my view.

Death and injury rates are GREATER in 20mph zones than they are in 30mph zones - because drivers are watching their speedos instead of the road.

So the speed of impact is 20mph in 20mph zones, but typically 10-15mph in 30mph zones because drivers are looking outside the car and not just at their speedos so they brake before the impact.

Origin B2 and Lidatek LE-30 laser diffuser. Both work very well.
