RS6 Avant No Satellites seen

Post by Procter » Sun Mar 23, 2008 8:13 pm

The GPS thinks I'm in the middle of a river!! The display says 30 satellites but cannot see any. Strange with a ski rack on the GPS was working OK. Having read other postings it appears that other owners have had the same issue. Is it easy to check the antenna is working correctly on the avant? If it’s not this what else could be causing the problem? :(

It's either the antenna, or the wire connecting it to the sat nav, or a loose connector.

If you're seeing 0 satellites then the antenna isn't working correctly!

Is there only way to check the antenna is not working correctly? Can I use a meter to measure the voltage at the antenna end?

Had the same problem coming off the M4 about 2 weeks ago- it was raing heavily and the satnav left me at the junction and decided to take a random tour of the midlands.

I have my car in with audi (Docklands) today to fix the no satellites received problem, i think it is a little more than an aerial problem - which was their diagnosis care of vagcom. It could be the GPS unit on the roof of the vehichle that the antenna screws into. I will report back as soon as i get the car from them with the estimate for works....

transpires the GPS base unit on the roof just dies and this need replacement, i didnt get much of a reason. They updated the software whilst the car was in. The base was around £110 +VAT. Shame it wasnt just the antenna that would have been cheaper....
