Concert radio turning on / off problems

I've a problem with the Concert radio in my MY2000 S4, it seems whatever logic or wiring that controls it turning on and off with the ignition of the power button has gone a little strange.
Sometimes it doesn't want to turn on at all, it just backlights the display when turned on at the main switch, regardless of the ignition being on or off. But today it seems to be turning on ok with the ignition (switch on radio left on) and turns on when the ignition is turned off, however it then turns back on after about a minute or so even when the car is locked.
Has anyone had this sort of problem before? Any pointers as to what controls this? I assume the radio has a normal +12V permanent and a ignition switched 12V and the electronics for the turning on/off logic is in the head unit itself? It seems whatever bit that controls this has gone a little strange.
Only just got the car so not sure what's normal. Am I right in assuming if the radio is left 'on' then it will switch on and off with the ignition. But if turned from on to off while ignition is off then it turns on? Not sure if it's worth getting some keys to pull it out and check the wiring, however a wiring fault on two simple power feeds doesn't really fit with the strange things it's doing!
Thanks,
Chris.
