The faceplate on the A6 unit is slightly wider than the A4 unit, and also has a chrome strip at the bottom on the A4 unit. May even be different in height.

All depends on what your going to be using the unit for, i.e. B5 retrofit, or into a a4/a6?

Yes i'm pretty sure it is, but if your going to be putting the A4 unit in your A6, then your going to have gaps on either side, and not entirely sure about the height

Well this all depends on how cheap you are getting the unit, as you could buy the A6 faceplate and recode the RNS-E. It's also not a straight swap, you will need to get the can-bus wires from the instrument cluster, or if you have the TMC module fitted, then you will need to disconnect the TMC module and infotainment can-bus wires to the output can-bus wires. These will then need to be connected to pins 9-10 on the D connector of the RNS-E quad lock connector..
