Airbag ECU

Has anyone had a confirmed airbag ECU failure?

I have got the following DTC:

Address 15: Airbags
Part No: 8D0 959 655 J
Component: A)rbag Front+Seite 2001
Coding: 01106
Shop #: WSC 63351

1 Fault Found:
65535 - Internal Control Module Memory Error
00-10 - - - Intermittent

I Googled about a bit and found out that:
a) error code 65535 is usually a terminal error
b) If a car crashes then the airbag ECU fuses itself to protect data and this means it is NOT reusable

So because of (a) I guess I need to get a new one, but because of (b) I am reluctant to get one from a breaker. It looks like DIY replacement is fairly easy, however it does involve pulling the SatNav and aircon unit, which I remember being a PIA to do, so I only want to do it once.

Can anyone share any experiences?

I would say you need a new Airbag control unit

BUT

I wouldn't get one from a scrappie, or any used car at ALL

Always buy new IMHO.
