Auto locking not always working.

Hi all,
I'm wondering if you can help. My RS6 is set to auto lock when it reaches 15mph, the trouble is sometimes it doesn't. I can find no error codes, and I know if I use VAG-COM and open the controller and come out the problem goes away for a short time. That might just be a coincidence though as there are no error codes stored (anywhere) and I don't have door open warnings or similar.
What I need to know is what would prevent the auto locking from working?
How does the VSS connect to the central locking module (if I wanted to trace the speed signal from it's source to whatever triggers the locking). What unit tells the doors to close? Does the cluster talk to the central locking module? I am thinking that the problem is likely to be mechanical (dodgy wire/comms/door close sensor).
Any advice appreciated.

Hi Grant,
Mine does exacxtly the same thing.
I remember reading a thread on here about a year ago (sorry can’t find it at the moment) that this is a problem & that there was a software update done to the central locking unit on latter cars to prevent this from happening.
Cheers,

Hi Rob,
ta for that!
Will the local main stealers be clued up enough to figure this out/do it? I've not been that impressed with their knowledge of coding and software updates.

Hi Grant,
Ah found it:-
peterb wrote:All RS6 cars supplied through Audi UK had the option of a standard Tracker at zero cost. I paid to upgrade to Horizon.
The description of the 'anti-hijack' facility mentioned above is a little confused - it's actually three different features which can all be enabled independently:
1) Beep on locking
2) 2-stage unlocking (driver's door on first press, then rest of doors)
3) Lock on speed (all doors lock when the road speed reaches 15kph, and unlock when the key is removed form ignition)
On cars built up to July 2003, this latter feature is not reliable - it may not always activate. There is later firmware for the central locking controller which fixes it.
These features can all be enabled, very easily, with VAG-COM. If you come along to a Windsor meet (always last Wednesday of the month), I can do it for you.
peterb wrote:Has anyone else enabled the automatic door locking feature and found that after some time that it stops functioning? This has been annoying me for some time - the only way of re-enabling the feature is to unset and reset it.
Browsing through ELSA last week, I discovered that this is known problem - a fault in the software (v D37) in the central locking control module.
Of course, even though it's a known issue, the dealer still insisted that I took the car in for them to look at, which I did this morning (together with printouts from ELSA!). The car is now booked back in on Thursday, to have the module changed.
This fault may apply to all A6 derivatives (2002 onwards?) with a production date earlier than July 2003 (VIN 4B3N099686).
I should imagine that the stealers would just chnage the whole central locking controller.
As I can't see them re-flashing software into a control module ~ can you?

Rob, can we get this done at the main stealers? I would like to get it sorted once and for all, cuz it's getting on my t1ts.

It sounds like it is exactly my issue!
Cheers

I sure would like to get mine sorted as it bugs the hell out of me as well
However, I've not as yet approached a stealer about this, but I’m going to Guildford Audi tomorrow to get a wheel valve, so I’ll make some enquires about it & let you know what they say.
Cheers,
