Alarm siren won't turn off

This is a great one. Done a search but can't find anyone else ever having this problem.
The car battery went almost completely flat. I know because the alarm started. I guess when it notices a voltage drop it goes off and the alarm sirens own battery keeps it going.
Have since charged the car battery and started the car but the alarm siren won't stop, even when the car is running.
The only way it will stop is if I disconnect the car's battery.
Any ideas?
Cheers,
John

just a short term solution to shut it up, unbolt it & unplug it and take it out of the car
and wrap it in a load of rags and leave it in the garage and i'll come up at the weekend and check it via VAG-com for you and see what code's have been stored

If it only stops when you disconnect the car battery, then that suggests that the internal alarm battery is goosed. It may be shorted and giving the alarm a signal that is equivalent to an activation or something - strange that using the remote doesn't silence it for a bit?
Have you tried disabling the internal sensors (switch on the drivers b-pillar) in case that's fecked - long shot.
The only other problem area I'm aware of is the bonnet sensor which is located near the catch - these get contaminated with dirt over the years and are a common failure.

Make sure the bonnet switch isn't broken by a bonnet shut too hard say, I had mine snap but fixed it, also yr alarm remote hasn't lost its calibration..?
I had a similar amusing scenario, eventually worked out the next day I had to recal. the alarm remote by holding both buttons down for over 10 secs, fob led goes dark, then hit any button twice an its sorted....... that is if you have a thatcham 1 (extra) factory fit jobby ...
