Airbag light on

Post by dhali » Wed Aug 22, 2007 2:47 pm

just come on in the dashboard. have scanned useing vagcom and have had no responce from controller. i have read somewhere that it could be the connectors under the seat? Have tried finding the thread on this but have had no luck. Any help would be appreciated as the MOT is due soon.

don't panic, airbag light isn't an MOT failure although it's good sense to get it sorted. what version of vag-com are you using?

if you can't connect to the module then it sounds like the module is faulty unless you're using a version of vag-com that can't read the airbag module. usually you get a DTC that tells you which airbag is faulty or unplugged.

latest version dave as i have had vagcom only for about six weeks. i did do some scans a couple of weeks ago and cleared some fault codes which were to do with the engine side of things.

The connecters under the seat are nothing to do with an unresponsive controller, they cause the Airbag light to come on but not for this error code.

Be careful if you replace the module. A new module can only be coded once and they need to be coded with the correct options (side airbags/seatbelts etc.)

You can replace like for like as long as the module is coded for the same options.

You don't say what car/options you have?

my B5 RS4 has the usual seat ,steering wheel, passenger , plus curtain airbags. Any idea how much these controllers are? And is it only a dealer job? where is it located?

Thanx.

I did mine no problem, it's behind the center console, there are instructions on Audiworld, can't find it right now.

I bought mine brand new and like I say it can only be coded once (you need VAG-COM).

However firstly you have to establish if it's the module as when mine went up the wall I could still connect to it so seems weird?

It might be worth plugging in the new unit, as VAG-COM now comes with a baloon with a "suggested coding" when you go to code a new module. Suggested coding is always right, on all the ones i've done, and this is after reading the original unit just to confirm
