As part of the install I had a Rapsody RSH-300 installed in the glovebox connect via the new Kufatec IMA interface. Unfortunately the IMA adapter wouldn't control the Rapsody unit from the RNS-E as advertised and confirmed by Kufatec so I was still having to use the remote control. This problem was further compounded as a couple of weeks ago I had a problem where the car battery got drained - I had a replacement fitted but since then the IMA adapter stopped sending the video feed across ... I only had Audio - so not really a good solution.
As Lee (aka TDIAvant) is just round the corner from me I called on his knowledge & experience and all is now good. I've now bought a new Rapsody unit and can now confirm that the older RSH-100 and RSH-110 unis are totally compatible with the IMA adapter and can be controlled directly from the RNS-E head unit ... Lee has got his Rapsody neatly unit installed in the spare tyre well of his RS4 Avant. The newer RSH-300 has a newer style remote control so the infa-red communication must be different and Kufatec have yet to code the IMA up to work with it. Control wise it's all very easy ... to switch the unit on it's simply a case of going to CD/TV menu and selecting TV on the source option. You just need to hold the big button down for a few seconds to switch the Rapsody unit on and from there it's pretty straight forward. Kufatec supplied some instructions in German which I'll hopefully translate via Babelfish and will post up here.
The lack of video feed was solved by resetting (by disconnecting the power) the IMA adapter. As I had one of the first new design IMA units from Kufatec it was delivered with no fitting instructions at all so we chose to give it a constant live feed. Looking at the IMA units that Lee has got in stock they have a different coloured power cable - the text on which when translated shows that it should be connected to a switched live. Lee swapped the power feed around and everything has been fine since. In fact the control integration of the Rapsody unit with the RNS-E is very slick indeed.
Hopefully this will be of use to anyone contemplating installing a Rapsody multimedia player in the future especially if you're planning on doing a DIY install.
And finally a big thanks to Lee for sorting me out ... anyone interested in an RNS-E/Bluetooth/Rapsody install then drop him a line.
Rich.
(PS Lee also upgraded me to RNS-E 0600 firmware but I haven't noticed any difference in functionality ... everything still works the same so worth doing the upgrade but don't ask me what the differences are
