I got an Origin B2 Solo with the laser and radar detectors, and I'm more than happy with it. IIRC the subscription is £50 a year.

Origin have rebranded recently and are now called Pogo (there must be a focus group pi$$ing thekselves laughing at that one) and they have brought out a colour screen detector which looks pretty good, but the unit is deeper so it won't fit in front of the centre vent, which is where I have hard-wired my B2.

Also with the Origin B2, works great, fitted mine on the far right of the dash below the vent, easy fit and a good spot I reckon.

I've got the new Pogo Alert in the RS4 (had a few Origin B2's before that). The Pogo Alert is by far the best featured & looking device currently available.

I'm running with the Road Angel compact plus the Laser Park Pro. The first gives me all the fixed data (and is better than the old B2 I have as well,. The latter is magic - not only warns me of the laser guns but prevents them getting a fix - and it works.....

I use a Road Angel Plus, very happy with it, being battery powered is very useful and its discreet, no cradles or cables required, just sits on the dash with a small black magnet.

Would recommend any of the GPS based units really for fixed sites etc. Laser detection is a bit useless IMO, you get a laser detected indicator, its too late you just been zapped and speed clocked.

I've scrapped my Cyclops (after they refused to make their update SW Windows Vistya compatible) and now have a PogoAlert (Pogo is the new brand name for Origin) which I'm very happy with

Calculates your average speed in average speed zones as well as showing type of fixed camera plus limit and actual speed - and can be set to show actual speed in km/h in France (no camera database for France though).

Road Angel for me. I have had a Road Angel II (now gone), a Compact which I'm using again now and a Navigator 6000 which is for sale as I only have one car now (that I take anywhere but work) and it has built in nav.

I agree laser is useless (unless you're into the dodgy area of jamming) and of the others the most important aspect is the quality of the database.

Speed camera detectors...

Post by quattrosteph » Mon Jul 09, 2007 9:21 pm

I though about a jammer as well but what is the law about them....? Can the police can clearly know you are using one when they aim you with a speed gun......?

The police can tell that you are using a jammer in most cases. I believe the Laser Park is a bit of a different matter as its designed as a parking aid, just a little over-powered for the job ;)
Basically the premise is that you get a jammer, your laser detector triggers an alert, you slow down and deactivate your jammer fairly sharpish and then you may get away with it as they will scan you at your now lower speed.
Its not the sort of thing you want to be caught using at all though, and you should not see it as a way to hoon about all day with immunity. Possible perverting the cause of justice offence (up to and including 7 years in prison IIRC ) for using one, though I dont believe anyone has landed that level of sentence for it so far and usually gets a "Obstructing police in carrying out their duty".
Wont help you at all against a calibrated unmarked police vehicle
Wont help you with a gatso either.
Just not worth it at all in my humble opinion.

origin b2 for me have had and used others its the best , also jammers well if you buy a laserprotecter park sensor it diffuses the laser when you get hit it scrambles the signal and puts there gun up with an error not a jammed code, the sensor beeps and turns a green led red which warns you to slow down then it shuts itself down for 60seconds then reboots so they can get a hit the second time this is switchable so you can have permanent protection and its also a park sensor :)

There's usually at least one knocking around ebay.

I got a Target LRC 100 a while back but ditched it because the actual diode (I think it's called) unit was such an awkward shape, being very long, I struggled to fit it anywhere. I am now considering something like the Laser Park Pro as it looks a smaller unit.

I can't fault the road angel pro connected. Works fine and you can plug the old r/a laser detector into it which almost jumps off the dash and nuts you when the laser hits and twice I've managed to slow down in time, hope this helps.
Cheers
