Just spoken to the dealer who tells me there is a lever built into the lights which pulls a cover over the left side to stop blinding oncoming drivers. Wants 1/2 an hours labour to do this. There is nothng in the manual, anybody know how to do this?

This was discussed recently somewhere.

There is a lever inside the lamp housing and on the RS4 B5 one side is a pig to get at...my dealer swapped them over free of charge for me. In fact the dealer took the whole lamp out of the car to do it (but I can't remember which side he took out - sorry).

Yes I seem to remember seeing it somewhere on here, I've done a search but can't find it.

Hiya,

Here is a link to one topic, but try searching on xenon (not xeon):

My 2003 S4 had the levers, my 2004 S4 didn't (so I just fitted the clear beam deflectors from Audi), my 2006 RS4 doesn't have levers and can't be fitted with beam deflectors (adaptive bi-xenons) BUT the lights can be put into a "tourist" mode by changing the value in channel 10 of address from 0 to 1 with e.g. VAG-COM before you go on holiday and changing the value back to 0 when you return.

Slightly ignorant of the whole VAG-COM thing. Does this mean you have the software on a laptop and you can plug your own car into it and control the diagnostics from the laptop? If so, its still a trip to the dealers for me.

Just had a conversation with the dealer who is now quoting two hours labour which equates to £246.75. Apparantley they have to take the bumper off to get to them. If thats right does that mean to change a bulb you have to do exactly the same? I think I'm being spun a load crap so bollocks to it I've bought some beam benders for £8.99 which I'm told do xenons no problem.

Incidently I'd have to pay thenm another £246.75 to change them back again when I get home. :audibash:

I think they are spinning you a yarn. My stealership did the conversion for free while I waited. And then swapped them back for free...while I waited. I don't recall falling asleep for two hours each time. Mind you..I've just noticed - I'm talking about a B5 RS4....your S6 may be different?
