Does any one know if the later concert 2 radio/cd can be fitted to the B5 S4,( As i believe they are the same size ) or will it only work on later cars with the CAN BUS system in place?
TIA

Check your cluster for can bus, if it has 3 connectors it is can based and you could possibly fit a concert II, if not you could use a can emulator, but you would lose the radio stations in the display.

When i removed the cluster to fit the chrome dial rings i did have to disconnect 3 plugs/connectors,so does it sounds like my late facelift (Dec 2000) does have Can Bus!!

So check the back of the stereo for the can bus wires, see if you have 2 wires for CAN H and CAN L, if not you will have CLK/DATA/ENABLE, you can move two of these over to the CAN positions at each end (cluster and HU) and install the concert II. You may also have to use VAG to change the cluster coding adpatation 10 channel 62 to 1 for RADIO.

The Concert II radios seem a bit hard to find though, are you looking on eBay? (I was considering this a while ago).

This is exactly what i'm thinking of doing ... was hoping it would be a simple plug and play option, but the whole CAN bus has cropped up. Mine's an early 99 (1st Jan!) PRE-facelift B5 S4 .. am i right in thhinking i will not have the CAN bus? If indeed i dont, will i still be able to make the concert II work using the method descibed above by craigyb?
Cheers in advance for any info / advice

Will have a look at the radio at the weekend to see what cables/connectors are there.
If i can do it without too much trouble then yes i will take you up on the offer of the concert II, if you think it will fit ok.
Do you have the code and manual with it, and is it BOSE compatable?
Have been looking on e-bay ,but you don't really know what your getting sometimes so will play safe and source on from a reputable person.
I have the latest version of VAG COM so should be able to programme it ok!
Thanks for your help guy's.

The simple way to see if your car is a can bus car is ,remove the fuse box cover on the end of the dash (drivers side) .look at the back of your clocks , if there is a gray plug in the middle it's a can bus system . g
Checked behind the dash/cluster and there is a grey plug held in place with a pink clip in the middle of the cluster.Looking good so far!!
Right i have just checked my radio and have added a photo so anyone got any idea's as to wheather i have can bus?
TIA

No you dont have canbus on the radio, you can clearly see the CLK/DATA/ENABLE on the middle of the 20 pin connector, the 2 empty pins are where CAN should be, pins 7 & 12.

Ok so can i fit the concert II into my car by swapping over 2 wires and keep the functions as they are now or should i just give up!
It would just be nice to have a genuine HU in the front with the ability to change CD's without going in the boot.
Do you think there is an 'element' of canbus in the car as i have the 3rd connector behind the cluster, if so can i pick up on the cable somewhere or is it a no go?

Basically when I do this on an A4/S4/RS4 I move two wires of the clk/data/enable to the canbus positions in the cluster wiring and to the canbus positions of the HU wiring. Then I use VAG COM to enable the cluster CAN by adding +1 to channel 62 of the cluster.
if you have pin removal tools or new pins for the 20 pin connector, it is fairly easy to do.
Cluster pins are easily moved with a jewelers flat blade screwdriver.

Thanks craigyb for your help.
So if i knew which colour wires to swap over at each end (From No? To No?) will everything work as it does now or will i lose some of the features that the current audio system has?
I have Sat Nav and BOSE on my car so want everything to carry on working.
Sorry for all the questions,i just want to be sure that it will work as i want it to.

By SAT NAV, do you mean the one in the DIS with the controls by the hand brake and the CD Drive in the boot?
