Replacement of dash pod (refers to B5 S4)

Post by Dippy » Sat May 12, 2007 3:04 pm

I have done a search and found some old info, but I'd like to some more recent info if it is available.

Basically I think my dash pod needs replacing.

Last year my battery went flat. It went to an Audi dealer who did some current tests and found that the dash was drawing above spec. current (they stated max 0.70A, and mine was 0.110A - obviously they made a mistake that I didn't notice at the time, so it must be either 70mA and 110mA or 0.7A and 1.1A). They quoted £563.92 inclusive to replace the pod. I decided not to take them up on the offer.

For several years I have also had an intermittent problem with my multifunction steering wheel - the controls for the radio not working. It has been getting worse and worse. Having looked at the circuit diagrams, the controller in the wheel sends a serial signal to a control module which is then connected to the dash pod. The only way that the signals can get to the radio from the steering wheel switches is through the dash pod.

lastly my VAG-COM will no longer connect. This has also been an intermittent problem and now it is almost 100% failing. I can just about get VAG-COM to test the connection OK by wiggling the connection, but it will still not talk to any control modules.

Today I decided to try some fault-finding. I had no success, but I did leave the ignition on for about 1-2 hours when the battery warning light came on. Now the car won't start. I currently have the battery on charge.

So the evidence points to needing to replace my dash pod. The question is how much should I pay for it. So if anyone who can give me recent information on cost I would be grateful. Thanks.

There was an RS4 dash on ebay earlier not too sure when it finishes, it was £75 with no reserve and no bids IIRC might be worth a thought
