Hello everyone!

I'm about to undergo a retro fit in my wifes 2004 B6 A4 Avant and just wanted to run the parts list i have by you to make sure i've got everything and know what i'm doing:

Navi+ which is the RNS-D (originally from a 2003 A4)
Plug-N-Play cable set (Ebay)
GPS antenna (also Ebay)
6 disc Audi changer (for the glove box)
BLAUPUNKT TELE ATLAS UK - IRELAND 2006/7 DX DISC

ok, so as i understand it, all i do is pull out my head unit which is already double DIN, swap it with the Navi+ using the plug-n-play cable, also connect the GPS antenna and route it somewhere near the front or rear screen (i have the avant - don't know if this makes a difference), then connect the 6 disk changer using another cable i got off Ebay and mount that in the glove box.

Then all i do is switch everything on, input the code for the navi+ and insert the map CD and hey presto!

Or is it......?

You will lose the cluster as you have no TMC module, also you need to run 3 wires from the cluster to the power connector for light/GALA/switched live or non of these will work and you wont be able to navigate on it, nor will it switch on and off with the ignition. Also you should get reverse as well from the cluster.

craigyb - what you just wrote means nothing at all to me can you elaborate and brake it down please.

I think i know what the TMC is - thats the digital display in the dashboard clocks isn't it? - i'm not bothered about having directions pop up there.

I was told that the plug-n-play cable set off Ebay would eliminate any additional wiring and surely the unit would switch on/off with the ignition just like the stereo as i'll be plugging what used to connect to the stereo into the back of the Navi+

If you have a symphony II then it is totally the wrong woring for an RNS-D, perfect for an RNS-E, but not the D.

I suggest your read up on the forums before attempting such a job. I shy away from RNS-D as they are a pain.

Second that.

I suggest you sell the RNS-D and get an RNS-E - MUCH easier retrofit, and a MUCH better unit than an RNS-D (I've owned both).

Paul, are you aware that the RNS-D from a 2003 B5 A4 will have a different size/shape fascia from that needed to fit properly in your 2004 B6 A4?

As Craig noted, without a TMC unit the DIS won't display. This is because as well as being a TMC (for receiving traffic information broadcasts) it is also a CAN gateway, allowing the data from the RNS-D to be translated for the DIS.

Other than that, the only thing you might need is VAG-COM to reprogram the RNS-D.

RNS-E all the way...

i had the RSN-D to RNS-E done a few weeks ago and can say that the RNS-E so so much more modern looking and in my opinion sound quality is much better too

Nah it will fit the didn't make a B5 in 2003.
