Phatbox Cable

I fitted a Phatbox today, quality piece of kit, very pleased with it. Bought it off a forum member on here, it was a brand new Audi supplied model and he was a top guy to deal with and he delivered it promptly. So a big thanks to NotNormal (he's as normal as the rest of us).

He also supplied an additional cable with it. He said it was to go from the Phatbox to the head unit. I have the RNS-D Navigation Plus TV system, and all I did was take out the CD multi-changer in the boot and replace it with the Phatbox unit, it worked straight away. So, does anyone know what the additional cable is for and do I need it? It's part number 8E0 051 592, photo below.

I just now need to summon up the balls to hack a hole in my piece of trim for the DMS unit to stick through. Anyone got any tips on this? Would be nice to be able to trim the hole with something.

You dont need the cable. Most Audis will have this cable fitted at factory even if the cd-changer was not installed as part of the original spec.

As for installations - you'll find a lot on Audiworld. Most just butcher the trim.

That's a CD changer cable for an AUdi glovebox CD changer, it can also be used in a VW for the CD changer.

Jarv - I marked where the hole had to be on the panel and then used a sharp stanley knife and steel rule to cut the slot. Held the panel firmly and scored it with a piece of flat wood underneath it. Just used a file to smooth and rough edges.

I fitted mine in the boot where the old CD changer was, took a dremel to the bottom of the cubby hole (where the jack goes) so the cable could screw in correctly to the back of the Phatnoise.
