Is there a way of finding out when an update disc is due out so that I don't buy one at the 'wrong' time. Also need discs to cover France & northern Italy. Can these be bought from non-franchised dealers? Why not set up a disc hire service on here so that people who only occasionally go abroad can ensure that they always have the latest disc? The link states that no further updates will be produced. This seems a bit quick even for technology obsolensence!

Don't want to sound dumb (but will!

) - do these Blaupunkt ones work for the RNS-D?? (And are they cheaper that if I go to my dealer??)

Get in touch with TeleAtlas directly. They'll let you know when the new ones are due out.

I asked Audi this question yesterday.
Answer was, yes there is an update and it's covered under warranty (Don't ask me how)
I've ordered one, they said it could take a while as they have a few on back order.

I used to use the Tele Atlas ones in my RNS-D - gave me TMC well before it was officially supported by Audi!

Can you get TMC on the RNS-D ?? I thought from the other thread this was only on RNS-E?? If so - does that mean that the free upgrade to include it (see other thread) should apply to us RNS-D folks too???

The RNS-D has been capable of TMC since 2003!!!
I bought the 2004 UK DX CD from Tele Atlas in late 2003 and just inserted it into the RNS-D in my 2003 S4, and TMC burst into life.
The free upgrade doesn't apply to the RNS-D, only the RNS-E.

Thanks PetrolDave
So will the Audi update include TMC - anyone know, or know how to find out?
If RSVI can get it under warranty, presumably all of us who have the warranty can, in which case it's a lot cheaper than buying from Tele Atlas!
But if I do need to go to TA, do you know which CD I need for my 2003 RS6 (not listed in their select a disc programme!). Is it the same as for an A6 etc for the same year?? Doesn't mention TMC in the blurb, but then perhaps, unlike me, they know it's been there since 2003 so it's altogether unremarkable!

Sorry lads, I'm lost.........
RNS = type of radio ?
RNS-"D" or "E" = Mark ?
Whats TMC stand for?
Or have i got it all completely wrong
I'm sure when someone answers I'm going to be
He who asks is a fool for five minutes, but he who doesn't ask remains a fool forever

Well I'm no expert (as you may have observed) but yes, RNS-D is the older combined Radio and Nav system (CD based) fitted to the RS6, and RNS-E is the newer version (bigger screen, more functionality, DVD based fitted to RS6+ and also new RS4.
TMC is the interactive system that receives traffic updates (from Traffic Master) and (I think) either alerts you, or on some systems re-routes to avoid delays etc. Not sure what the "C" is for - I'll plump for "Cunning!!"
I'm sure someone clever like Craigyb will be able to give us chapter and verse!

This is the disk used in the S3, S4/S6/S8 or RS4/6 with RNS-D, CD based navigation, it will provide TMC and is a 2007 disk

Is there not a West Europe disc? Or do yo need to buy ones for each country?

Found this on TMC
TMC: The Traffic Message Channel. Tele Atlas map data also include RDS/TMC codes*. They alert the driver in real time, in his/her preferred language of any incidents, roadworks, traffic jams and dangerous weather conditions on his/her planned route and immediately recalculate an alternative route and arrival time.
* TMC codes are not available for all countries. Some navigation systems do not receive TMC codes.
So last question - does the Audi disc, which apparently RSVI is going to get under warranty, have the TMC enabled within it?? Do let us know!

As it is CD based it only contains country wide data to street level.
There is a "Major Roads of Western Europe" disk. But when I had that, Britain was missing from it.
