Hi Guys - experienced eyes needed here please.

Just bought 2003 RS6 ( :D ) and find I have various old phone preps in it I think.

First there is an odd mounting on the dash:

and then there is an armrest prep:

So several questions:
  • What's the strange mount for on the dash?? Can I just cut the wires and remove it (with ignition off) or will that upset something?
  • Is there a Plug'n'play replacement for the ancient contraption in the armrest (it has a plug into a socket somewhere below the bit I photo'd. Can I just unplug for now, or again, will something get upset??
And finally, and probably much more interesting - is there a plug and play Bluetooth that I can just slot in instead - or is this a trip to see Craig??

Thanks for the help

Dave

First connector is for an Origin B2 by the looks of it, so if you need a speed camera detector, buy a B2 and just pop it on there.

Second is for the Gen 1 phone prep, not bluetooth I'm afraid. The bluetooth upgrade works well if you have the RNS-E nav system, not too good with the RNS-D althought you will get the names in the cluster, you will have to initiate calls etc from the phone with the RNS-D system.

Thanks Craig

Annoyingly I have just installed a Road Angel..... bother. Can I just remove the Origen mount and cut the cable??

How do I tell whether I have RNS-D or E?

RNS-D Is the Audi Navigation Plus, RNS-E is called Multi Media Interface (MMI) I think, key difference is that RNS-D is CD based for navigation whereas RNS-E is DVD based, with a bigger screen which folds down so that you can throw a couple of SD memoryt cards into it.

I think all UK RS6's came with RNS-D/TV/CD changer and then phone as an option.
The RS6+'s came with RNS-E/TV/CD and phone as an option

Thanks for the various replies. I've unplugged the old phone - seems quite happy, so I'll whip out the cradle later - I like to keep sweeties in the armrest - for the idle moments between bends!

It would be intersting to see if the Origen installation is still working - anyone got a B2 in the area they'd like to loan/sell??

Is the RNS-D bluetooth installation simply plug and play, or does it require professional installation? I guess I can live with the "inconvenience" of using the phone to make calls - after all, that's what I do at present with my earpiece!

I presume upgrade to RNS-E is a complete unit replacement - and therefore pricey?

Thanks for all the help

The RNS-E installation is a complete unit replacement, but you get a larger screen, better interface, more features, clearer maps, DVD and SD memory card slots, and full bluetooth phone integration - well worth it IMHO.

You can pick them up for about £500.
