B5 S4 Factory armrest telephone.

Hi Folks,
Slowly fixing all the issues on my new (to me) 2000 B5 S4.
It has a armrest phone - a Nokia 3110 - plumbed into the SatNav/Bose etc. I realise this was probably pretty nifty back in 200 but it doesn't work when I put my orange sim in it; comes on but will not get a connection. It does mute the stereo etc when attempting to dial... I've tried the usual unlock procedures for the model but it claims to be already unlocked. Nevertheless, it doesn't work. The phone will not make a connection outside of the cradle either. I haven't tried yet with another provider's sim - I might give that a whirl but I really want to use Orange...
I have two sims for my account - set up to ring one then the other if it's not on. It worked perfectly in my previous car - sim just went into the dash and left there permanently. So I need to stay with Orange for any phone solution. What are my options? I tried to find another 3110 (Orange) on Ebay but there are none and you don't seem to be able to buy them anywhere else?
Can I change the cradle in some way to accomodate something more modern? Or can I bag an orange 'phone that will fit the cradle - I'm really not bothered about having a fancy 'phone - I doubt I'll use it very often but *as it's there* I'd like to get it to work!
