If its the same Nav plus as in the RS4, then all you need to do is remove the unit and disconnect the blue/white GALA wire from the back. It may be worth extending the ends of the wires into the glovebox so that you can reconnect/disconnect them easily if you want to. Apparently the GALA wire has something to do with improving the accuracy of the navigation.

HTH.

What others have done is to incorporate a switch in this circuit; as the RS6 has most options fitted as standard you don't get many "blank" switch plates on the dash, but assuming you don't have the electric rear blind, you can buy the switch from audi and wire it into the GALA wire connecting the speedo to the Nav unit.

Well, I think signals are taken from the abs sensors, which are then used to more accurately determine your position, however, I have run mine disconnected for some time now, with no noticeable difference in the Nav performance/location.

It's probably worth extending the wires (as I have done with simple spade connectors in the glovebox) or as SteveH says, with switch hidden away somewhere, just in case you do encounter some issues with it disconnected.

Do you need a special tool to remove the headunit?

You need special removal keys, but you can get these from Halfords. There are four slots for the keys, but you can get away with buying a pair with a bit of fiddling!

Failing that, you could always ask your local stealer to remove it for you.......

Excellent, I think I may just have a word with the RS technician at my garage and see if he will just do it for me on the sly.

Dam good guy he seems to be, he was telling me how he went to the factory and saw a couple of RS6's being assembled.

or you can split a set of feeler gauges and use the individual feelers, one in each slot

I discovered an over-ride rocker switch down on the side panel of the centre console in the footwell on my car. Looks factory fitted as the colour match is ecellent and it's tiny, but obviously it isn't. A previous owner must have had it installed.
