Sat Nav Plus + Ipod Video

Post by reserves » Thu Sep 21, 2006 9:54 am

This is probably a long shot, I know Sat Nav Plus can be used as a screen for a dvd player.

My question is, is it possible for the unit to be used to play video out of the iPod Video. I know the iPod dock sends out standard RCA's - left/right & video.

I have a B5 so this cuts down my options I guess.

Cheers

Can't see any problems with what you are suggesting - there are audio and video inputs on the back of the TV tuner in the boot, so should work. Only problem is where to position your i-pod so you can operate it!

Ahh, so I would need the TV tuner, damn! Thought the Nav Plus might have a video in somewhere.

[Edit] Something like this would make it easier http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VIDEO-DVD-Adapter ... dZViewItem

though I can't find it for the B5 version of Nav Plus.

Would the correct wires already be in the car or would I have to run them through? I only have the Sat Nav that operates via a control panel next to the handbrake.

I guess the iPod makes no difference, it's the same as an external DVD player, I would have to run the leads all the way to the boot (if this is where the TV tuner went) and then back to the ipod, which would be a dock installed in the centre console ashtry! (I like the OEM look, so this would hide nicely.)

Talking to myself...

Looks like I could go straight in from the iPod with this

to use your ipod for video you'd need the sat-nav plus and either a tv tuner (non-B is easier to install and connect ancilliaries to) or a dietz adapter. the tv tuners can be had for upwards of £50 from german ebay and obviously have the facility to watch tv on the move. to be honest you can fit them yourself if you've ever installed a radio but to get it to display in the DIS is fairly tricky, give craigyb a pm and have a word with him, he can probably supply and fit all the bits you need or suggest some sexier alternatives from his portfolio

Both of those adaptors look like they connect into the TV Tuner module, not the head unit. I'm guessing, but I assume that some VAG TV Tuners don't come with the input jacks on the back, hence why you would need one of these adaptors. If you haven't got the tuner, then I don't think it will work. There certainly isn't any input jacks on the rear of the head unit.

Sorry!

Cheers.

I don't mind paying £50 for TV, that sounds good actually! Just didn't want to run the wires through the car as it's a pain in the a**.

I've installed head units / Amps in my cars before so I know roughly what i'm doing(!)

As i've said i've got the cheaper Sat Nav (not the plus) wired into the DIS already, don't know if this makes it easier / harder.

I understand that there's something that allows me to watch TV on the move (for my passenger obviously ;))
