Connecting GSM on OEM roof-mounted antenna

Post by peterb » Mon Sep 11, 2006 6:49 pm

It's taken me over three years to get around to it, but I've finally hooked up my phone kit to the OEM roof-mounted antenna on the RS6.

Craigy was kind enough to let me have a Kufatec cable which he had no requirement for. Unfortunately, the Kufatec cable had the wrong connector on it - as I discovered once I'd dropped the roof lining to look for the connection out of the antenna!

Apparently, all Audi Avants, since 1998, which are fitted with a triplex antenna, have the GSM signal available on a connector made by ROKA. I couldn't find a source of the connector on its own, but I did find a convertor from ROKA to FME connector available in Germany - unfortunately, the delivery was more expensive than the adapter!

Anyway, with this adapter, and Craigy's cable (with the original connector snipped off, and an FME connector crimped on in its place), I was able to connect the antenna through to the phone kit, and it's all working perfectly!

Now I can dispense with the tax disc holder gsm antenna, which hasn't been working so well since my windscreen was replaced with a thermally reflective screen.

If anyone would like further details, please get in touch.
