B5 Footwell Lights

Hi,

It looks like there are interior lights in the driver's and passenger's foot wells.

Before I start checking fuses and bulbs, are these normally "live" or an option and when are they suppossed to come on?

Neither of mine seem to work, but I can't think what/when they are for either.

Thanks
Graham

Hmm. Both footwell bulbs OK. No other electrical items not working, so fuses ok - quick visual inspection confirms this.

Wiring diagram anyone?

OK, I now have a diagram.

Diagram identifies lights I am troubleshooting as Left and Right Foot-well lights.

Note left and right are the wrong way around for a RHD car. Drivers side has the dual Grey/Red cable that feeds the power to the passenger side.

I have eliminated the bulbs and every fuse in the dashboard fuse panel.

There is continuity in the cables where I would expect it.

I put my meter accross the Grey/Red supply (door open, over head interior light on) and grounded it (eliminating door switch and wiring - correct?) and there was no voltage - well something like 0.8, but nothing near the 12 you would expect.

So no power. The cables dissapear up behind the dash past the relays and fuse box area so I could not trace.

The diagram shows the power comes from the "Warning Lights Control Module".

Does anyone know where this is? I is a plug in and out relay type thing?

The diagram shows the live feed from this module also powers various "door warnng lights". What are these? I have never seen a door open warning light on the dash? Can anyone confrim what these are?

I personally think I may have a faulty "Warning Lights Control Module", but have no idea what it looks like and where it is! If I knew those two and it's cheap enough I'll replace it.

Any ideas people?

Thanks
Graham

when you open a door with the ignition on the multi-function display in the dash should change to a plan view of the car showing the door or bootlid which is open.

OK - I don't have this!

UNLESS pre-faceift cars didn't have this (can anyone confirm?), I think the warning lights control module is looking like my man!

I'll try my local dealer parts dept. with just the description "Warning Lights Control Module" but I fear problems without knowing where the part is 1) to be able to identify it correctly and 2) to replace it!

It seems nobody knows about this - perhaps not a common fault.

I spent a while at Keith Garages (Aylesbury) today with the parts guy and a tech trying to identify the part on their system.

The best we could find was wa relay described as "Door Entry Light Relay".

I have ordered this part (only £16) no. 4D0907131 that goes in a relay box I have a blown up diagram of in location 1/382 !?!

I have my fingres crosed this is the part and I can find it to replace it, but it may not be correct - I'll let you know in about 10 days when it arrives.

The part found on the parts computer described as "Door Entry Light Control" was a relay marked 382.

If found and replaced relay 382. Would fuse 382 be unique or would relay type 382 be a common part? Unless I replaced the wrong relay 382, this was not the right part to replace as I still have the fault :(

Relay 382 was suppossed to be in position 1, but it was in a posisition marked 3 - there did not seem to be a position one. Are there more relays other than the few under the dash near the fuse box? - as there are only a few there and I would have expected to see more.

I am pretty stumped as to how to fix this now .......HELP!

Pre-facelift does not have the plan view of the car on the DIS when a door is open

You could always wear one of those mining lamps when you get in your car in the dark.

Sorry I cannot be of further help.
