Xenon HID headlights

Post by shineydave » Sun Apr 09, 2006 5:56 pm

there seems to be quite a bit of confusion over MOT requirements for Xenons. i've been browsing the MOT testers handbook and can't find any references to the need for headlamp washers or self-levelling systems however these seem to be required by EU regulations. has anyone had a car fail an MOT because the headlight washers or self levelling wasn't working?

my car just went through its mot but the headlights were low so they were adjusted manually with no prob and all was well..i think the leveller only comes into play when the car is full of people..so for an mot if there at the rite beam level adjustment u should be ok..

i don't have a problem as such, mine all works fine, i was just curious as to what the story is with them as, reading from other posts, some say Xenons need to have washers and levellers but i can't find any evidence to back it up. i do a bit of MOT prep and servicing in my spare time and thought i'd better get my facts right.

well they get there level reading from the front suspension arms..there,s a small rod that links the sensor to the front arm and it reads its level and adjusts the headlights accordingly..look for the rod and your,ll know if u have xenon levelling, also they never tested my headlamp washers so i wouldn't worry about that..
