I dont know how but I have so far retained a clean licence whilst driving the licence killing beast; however, I have had a few very close calls lately so I must invest in a black-spot gizmo to save the licence... Any top-tips??

I see that Road Angel are releasing a wire-free version this month called Road Angel Plus, which is a new battery powered version of the standard unit, saving you having to either wire it into your dash or have the unsightly cables to the lighter point. Are Road Angels any good? What would you consider to be the gizmo of choice?

I have found the Road Angel to be very accurate.

The laser detection is useless, spoke to a traffic cop if it goes off its too late.

GPS is the key and the RA is very good. I've got the 'New' (old) Road Angel hard wired behind the fuse box and have it mounted at the bottom of the driver-side A-pillar. The cable tucks down between the pillar and the dash so no wires visible

Its very good, warns of mobile van spots and average speed zones. If you like to get on A roads in unfamiliar territory it can be a license saver. I recently took an A-road over Lichfield to Stafford as M6 was blocked. Was pressing on over a crest and it went off, as soon as I could I was on anchors and 200yds ahead was a 40mph zone with a camera about 10yds into it!

I have a standard Road Angel stuck to the lower right of the windscreen. My dealer wired this directly in to the fuse panel so that it is only activated after the engine is started. The main problem with the Road Angel is that if it is powered while the car is starting then the voltage drop causes it to lock up, the only resolution being to remove the power for about 1 minute.

This has been a real licence saver and I still have no points even after 18 months of RS6+ ownership.

Snooper S4 ditto as guys above, hard wired into the fuse board. (what a fortunate place to have them!) Snooper is very good, namely in the way it tells you what speed the limit is in which you are driving, ie you don't have to suddenly look around to find a sign once a gatso is in your sights...

reports on road angel were v.good but decided to go for origin b2 which is also excellent. noi problems with it, £100 to get installed or do it yourself. Laser detector on this also useless as by the time it goes off they have your speed. For that you need a "Lidetek garage opener" if you know what I mean which work very well (apparently a friend tells me). Just be prepared for a swift de-installation

to be fair , the b2 unit / road angel and similar priced snooper units all do the same job .
laser detector is pretty useless as per everyone else , you can fit a difuser or jammer as it is known as i have , but ive been lucky its never had to kick in and save me .
there is a system im trialing called tds tr30 which i have found is cheaper and also does the same job (detector still crap) .
most people it is down to preference on the unit or reccomendation .
im in wigan and if you wanted an origin b2 id be happy to fit it for free as a fellow rs owner .

I've recently had a road angel compact hard wired in to my RS6 and found it to be spot on. It's very simple to use and can be adjusted to suit your personal preferences (defintely advise to switch Tiff Needel off on start-up!!!). I particularly like the fact that it advises the speed limit when approaching a camera/blackspot which is handy if you're driving in unknown areas.

When I was looking into Road Angels I was thinking of getting the regular sized one (the new road angel) but at nearly twice the price it didn't seem to offer many more benefits (other than the integrated laser detector) when compared against the compact so in the end I opted for the smaller & newer unit. Cost a smidgen over £210 by Audi to supply & fit. I've also got it positioned right hand side of the front windscreen.

Has there not been a cut in Laser useage by the Police after the laser system was shown to be unreliable, in a recent court case.

It is certainley not used very often in Scotland - mainly fixed or moblie radar.
I use origin B2 and Euro Bell 550 detector.

I'm surprised to see that Road Angel will now tell you the speed limit. A couple of years ago at the motor show I was deciding between the road angel and the Snooper S4. The main difference for me was the speed limit function of the snooper so I asked a guy on the road angel stand why they didn't offer it and his response was that they didn't feel it was a good idea to be telling people the speed limit as they should already be aware and they were only providing warning of danger spots. this all sounded like crap to me and I got the Snooper (which is great I have to say - I haven't caught it out yet, even with temporary cameras in road works on motorways).

I use a Snooper S4neo and my other half a Road Angel. Road Angel uses your home Pc for updates via a USB connection whereas the Snooper uses an inbuilt modem over a phone line. Mind you Snooper may have changed the system as the one I have is 4 years old.

Both of them are pretty much the same as far as fixed/mobile camera sites are concerned but would also doubt their abilities with Laser detection. However, the alser bit might sound if they target a car in front of you and you catch part of the emission).

Cheers all for the advice, and cheers Chris for the offer of free install; greatly appreciated... in the end I decided to get a "Road Angel Plus" (£300), what swung it for me is that its battery powered, so no cables needed and looks very neat. Can also use it in other cars with it not needing any power cables. Decided to sit it in the middle of the dash on the magnetic disc.

Battery life is better than expected, had the unit a few weeks now and basically it lasts me for a weeks worth of normal driving on one charge, if driving very long distance it needs an additional charge after a few days either in car or at home (bought the optional mains charger for a tenner, you could charge it using the USB cable that comes with the unit via your PC but thought that was a tad impractical).
