Alarm Madness

Evening all,

Just had to Charge the battery on the RS4, large tunes short journeys in the dark etc etc.

However, I also have an alarm issue, not to concerned as the car is off to the bodyshop tomorrow - but just wondered if anyopne has had the same problem or could shed any light on what the problem might be.

Basically the alrm has started going off on it's own, not that you would here it though, it is very quiet indeed.

Everything seems fine apart from the fact that when you set the alarm with the keyfob the indicators do not flash. It's as if the boot was slightly open or one of the doors. I have been around the car opening and shutting everything but this has not cured the problem.

Also upon setting the alarm the Drivers door LED flashes very quickly before settling down again.

Any ideas anyone?

I think the LED flashing quickly is what it's meant to do - during the period when it's flashing quickly the interior sensor is not armed, then once it settle down, it's fully active. That's what I've always thought anyway. As for going off randomly, haven't had that, but they are ludicrously quiet.

Out of interest, how often do you have to charge your battery - I only ask because mine has some issues. If left standing form a week the battery will more than likely be dead. After a few days, it's difficult to start. Took it into Audi and they disconnected all audi components that use the battery and said there's still something draining the bat. They suggested it could be the tracker, but of course only tracker know where it's fitted and can check it so I'm wondering if it could be a crap battery that's old and is it worth buying a new battery before paying tracker to come and check it all out?

Have EXACTLY the same problem on my S4. Only happened to me after changing to a new battery. Very intermittent though.
I don't have a clue what it is (just wanted to let you know you're not the only one!).

I can leave the RS6 for three weeks and it will still start instantly.

Right popped up to my mate garage yesterday prior to taking the car over to the bodyshop. He ran it through Vagcom and basically the bonnett catch is not sensing. It is booked in early Feb for MOT, Service, Downpipes, Alarm Fault and coolant leak investigation so I will know more then.

Body shop are also doing a tricle charge on the battery for me.

I will update when I have more news.

Same problem with her 1.8T quattro!
July 1999 on original battery.
Alarm going off on its own ( in garage)
Going off in garage just after starting up. Remove ignition key, still beeping. lock on remote and it stops.
S3Paul suggested a search on TTForum and got some info that pointed towards alarm battery issue. Apparently they are complete alarm unit replacement not just a battery !

After several cases, each slightly different Peterb did a VAGCOM for me, thanks Peter, and it showed up

Has been ok for the last few days but it did have a daylight run on motorway last weekend.
I was told that it was very embarrasing and I've been made to buy a new battery (first time for years -- don't keep them long enough!)
Will fit over the weekend and let you know if there is a repeat next week!

OK have now fitted a new main battery , but the problem arose again yesterday, busy driving along the M329 towards Reading with the beeping going ! Stopped before she got off the motorway at Suttons.
Looks like a new alarm unit with battery - possible part number 8L0951605A reputedly about £35;

i've just bought a new alarm sounder as mine appreared to be FUBAR. it was also showing no communications and had no sound in alarm situations. plugged the new sounder in and the damn thing wouldn't stop alarming. tried disconnecting the plugs from the central locking pump and let the alarm back up battery run down. reconnected everything and now i can't get a peep out of it when i trigger the alarm although the indicators flash for at least 2 minutes. is there some sort of procedure to get the central locking and alarm to talk to each other? by the way, they nipped me £75.00 for the sounder.

ok, somehow or other the alarm sounder is now working as it should but the interior and door lights refuse to come on, neither on the door switch or manually. also the indicators don't flash with the alarm at any point. if i unlock the car with the key then only the drivers door unlocks, if i unlock all the doors though with the fob the key will lock all the doors.

Alarm ok but main battery lasts about a week as I found out to my cost when I returned from holiday at 02:30 at East Midlands airport yesterday morning. 45minute wait for the RAC to do a jump start, just what you need after spending 4 hours in an aircraft seat with such cramped legroom.

Is the alarm backup battery included in the sounder? I only ask as that's one thing I've looked at as a drain, but it doesn't seem big enough or heavy enough to contain a battery.

yes it does, if you look on the back there's a Ni-Cad symbol on there. i plugged my new sounder in to confirm all was well before installing it properly, when i unplugged it the damn thing went off and wouldn't shut up untill it became flat again. incidentally my problem (apart from the alarm sounder being buggered) was down to the fuse for the interior lights blowing, it causes some very strange occurences when it goes, open the rear drivers side door and it shows both doors on the RHS open for example.
as for the sounder being ridiculously quiet, see my other post about moving it under the bonnet, much louder now although still not ideal.
