Phatbox with RNS / SatNav+

I've fitted my Phatbox, complete with a neat hole for the cartridge in the trim cover, and updated firmware.

Everything works but one thing is bugging me: How do I set up the Features with Sat Nav+?

All the instructions require me to use the "SEEK" button. But there isn't one on the Nav+ head!

I found the document 3301-HUSETUP_WEB.pdf which clearly shows the Nav+ (RNS Plus) is "Radio Type S". And my new firmware reads this out in the Features section. But to select it I need to press the "SEEK" button.

Please enlighten me someone???

Oooo... I wish I could remember! One of the other buttons on the RNS 4 h/u does work instead of the 'seek' button in configuration, but I'll be blowed if I can remember which it is! Perhaps the '>' button or the large 'select' knob???

The only real drawback of not having a seek button is that you can't trigger the announcement of current track info on demand.

Thanks Peter. I have found that the 'fast-forward' button (holding track change down) will invoke the current track announcement. However I have tried this in the feature menu to no avail...

Well, I never.... I wonder why I didn't find this?

I know that one of the buttons definitely works, I did manage to configure mine - keep trying!

Well I just fitted one, but I didnt need to go into the configuration menu at all - it was literally just plug & play.

Or am I missing some goodies which are specific to the SatNav+ head unit??

Would you mind sharing some details such as where you got it from and how much you paid ?
I'm considering getting one and cannot decide between getting from US and putting up with some possible issues or UK.
Thx :D

Sure - US ebay - $230, complete with mounting kit, which I didnt need, which was about £130. Even if you get hit with VAT & import duty, that's still only about £160. Audi price is about £500! The only issue I had was that I forgot to ask for the European PSU for the USB cradle when I paid, so I had to spend another fiver on a 220V PSU!

I would highly recommend this seller :-

http://stores.ebay.com/Pugi-VW-Mazda-Hyundai

Paid for it on a Sunday, goods despatched next day, arrived at home on the Wednesday - boxed, new, all cables, fixings, software, manuals - cant do better than that (in fact, I bought something the same day from the UK and it turned up the next Saturday!)

If you're going to mount it in place of the CD changer, where it fits perfectly (you just need to remove the cradle and half the boot), then you could save a few dollars by shopping around for one which doesnt include the mounting kit.

Thx for the info Clive. Was not sure if I needed a mounting kit or not - RS6 Saloon; options seem to be cut cover to allow catridge space or mount a little further back and risk damaging the cable; other than mount visibly in the boot.

Sounds like a good price and great service.

Sorry Fenny, I'd overlooked the fact that you have an RS6, but the cradle assembly will be very similar, if not the same.

You could mount the box further back in the cradle if you drill some more holes (as it lines up with the front using the existing holes). I used the existing holes but the cartridge does not protrude enough to warrant cutting a hole in the cover.

Clive, yes you possibly are. It works without configuration, but there clearly are a few features in the function menu which are inaccessible.

Any idea what those features are and why they are not accessible ?
Thx,
Lee

Lee,

I think Dippy is referring to those features which will not be available if the Phatbox is not configured to the Audi head unit.

However, I'm not sure how to do that as the options described in the manual refer to Concert or Symphony head units, and the Satnav+ is neither of those...any hints please?

Clive - I see, well I have just got one and plan on fitting soon.. I found a sheet that gave me info on loads of head units; cannot see it at the moment but I think the SatNav+ - RNSE I think is refered to as radio type 'S' - so needs to set up like that when you 1st power up.
