Phatnoise - who has one and are they worth it

Post by SimonS4MTM » Wed Oct 05, 2005 1:49 pm

As the title suggests, who has one and are they worth it, anyone thinking of getting one?

Where is the best/cheapest source?

I have one and I think they are just perfect! so versatile (play by playlist, artist, genre etc) and no more writing CD's etc and holds stacks of music - including audio books.

BJacks and myself got ours from the US via ebay at BIG savings

I bought one from phatnoiseuk (off ebay) £169 and works perfectly. I bought the VW model and not the Audi one as I already had the multicd installed and hence had the correct cable. Simply removed the multicd and plugged in the phatbox.

Love it to bits. I've just got to get around to installing a 100Mb harddisk.

Umm this might sound daft but Scotty, are you saying that if I've got a 98 S4 avant & have the bose & multi changer then I can just go for a VW one - which for some reason is cheaper. I guess all of the CD changers will probably be the same...

The Audi ones are only about 220 now from UK ebay. It's the cable thats different.

fade2grey - I don't know your car and wouldn't want you spending your money on my sayso. All I know is since I already had the 6cd all I had to do was connect the cable out the back of the headunit with the cable out the back of the phatnoise. Once I did this I simply configured the phatbox (via the radio) so it knew which model and the job was done (save for the two screws holding it in place).

I heard that it was only the cable that set them apart and for me the VW one worked perfectly. If I didn't have the multicd and would therefore have required the cable from the headunit then I still would have bought the VW unit and then bought the cable separately. I would still have saved over £20 over the Audi ones.

It maybe different on the B6 S4 then....

I just bought one and fitted it in place of my six disc changer and I needed the cable as the one on the changer is fixed to the unit. So there is just the cable coming out which plugs into the large din type connector.

So far its pretty good and I found a guy selling them who got it to me next day for £195 inc delivery....

It looks like it uses a standard laptop hard drive so in theory you could increase the capacity too but in practice I dont know if this has been done before!

Guys,

this is the guy I got mine from on Ebay....

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... 5818308609

Best price I have seen them for, but he has put his postage up by an extra £4

I won the item, paid by PayPal and it came the next morning before 9.

From what I can see he won a job lot from USA and has bought UK PSU's to add to each one....

Really please with my item.....

If this is inappropriate mods please delete, just want people to get the best deal. I'm not connected with the seller in anyway, just a happy customer.

cheers

Gav
