I've just done a quick search on here and it might be spindle/motor gone?
I don't mind having a go myself, as the car isn't due in garage for a while.

One Speed Wipers
S4 now has only one speed for the windscreen wipers (slow). It does not matter what position the switch is in. I've got an idea that it might be the relay?
