Just like the the title says,
I want to change the HU in my S3 because the sound is dissapointing and changing the HU will improve the soundquality I think.
Is this a regular swap or are there some difficulties with the BOSE system when I use a Kenwood HU?
(I have a Kenwood PSW 9521)
Thanks

I did this on my '99 S3 with Bose
All the usual stuff for power, memory and illumination etc are on a standard ISO connector.
The problem comes in when drinving the Bose speaker setup.
You need to supply the BOSE system will 'line output' level signals not speaker level amplified outputs.
Check that your head unit will do this, if so you need to identify the correct connections in the twenty pin connector by reading the label on the existing head unit. (All that you need is in the yeelow part of the connector.)
I joined all the grounds of the outputs together to one pin on the connector and each output separately.
This worked fine except for one problem. My head unit used 'blanking' on its outputs. This causes the head unit to go 'dead quiet' while retuning the radio or at very low volume and during power off. This 'balnking' caused the BOSE to boom once.
I had to modify the head unit (Not easy) to remove this.
PM me if you need more help.
Rich.

You may have already decided to do the change, but IF you have a Symphony head, it includes a graphic equaliser which can improve the sound (but maybe not enough for your taste). Trouble is it is only accessible through a 'hidden UI'.
