Thinking of getting one but have read that they are bringing a new law in to ban them?does it include these gps systems with the safety dlackspot features or is it just lazer jammers etc?i could do with any info on this and how good the unit actually is as i dont want to waste 3-400 quid if they get banned or there is something better on the market,thanks in advance guys

As I read it, they will not be banning the GPS type of device, any ban would only apply to devices that detect camaera's etc, so in effect Laser and Radar detectors.

For full info and tests of all devices go to http://www.ukspeedtraps.co.uk/ it is the best site for info etc, they conduct tests using Police equipment, and in fact the police contribute to the site I understand.

I Personally use the Micro Road pilot, with both Laser and Radar options, it really is a stealthy install, with nothing showing outside of the car, it is all behind grills etc, and is deadly accurate. The LCD unit is tiny, which to me is a bonus, I just do not like ugly great "boxes" stuck to the dash top, just a personal thing.

Agree with all the above, I have a built in Bel 996R in my daily hack, I hate the wires and stick on bits that are assosiated with Angels, Having said that, I have an Angel in one car, not so sure that it is that clever, keeps giving me school warnings on the M4.... doh... Origin Blue2 is not much better...

and if the ban applies to Laser detectors such as that on the New Road Angel, then it can easily be disabled on the Road Angel by the owner from the menus, or Blackspot can send a firmware update to disable it permanently. This will leave the GPS-based functionality only and should therefore be 100% legal under the new rules.

If anyone is contemplating getting a Road Angel and wants it fitted without wires, if you buy the unit from Halfords, they will professionally fit it so that the wires are hidden away and you don't have to use your lighter socket to power it.
Cost is £35 or £40 I believe - contemplating going and getting mine done although if I do, I'll wait whilst it's fitted... the yobs at my local Halfords would likely take the car out for a spin otherwise!

I was under the impression that the proposed new legislation wasn't aimed at detectors (radar or laser) but aimed at the jamming devices that can be purchased.

Anyway, it ain't law yet and £ 400 is less than the cost of losing your licence should you happen to stray into three digits!
